This mod also stops the lighter rattling in the holder. Got the diea when I was bitching to my Mits parts man about it. He is also the Holden parts man.

Go down to your nearest GM dealer and buy part number 92056521 for a VZ Commodore. What you will get for 6 bucks is a black pastic thing hat looks just like a cig lighter but is made of nylon. Poblems solved:)

I'll post a pic tomorrow. All you do is pull out the removeable bit of the lighter and swap the nylon one in. The rest of the mechanism stays in place.

Would also suggest sourcing a TL/TW compartment for that area. Simply replaces the whole panel with a nice flat compartment piece that opens up a good place to stash your sunnies. It's what I have in mine. Then i simply installed my lighter socket at the back of it, just in the rare case I need to plug something into it.

I would also like a part number and cost of this pannel... a photo maybe? ive never seen one.

The smoking policy in my car is the second a smoke hits your lips i stand on the brakes and aim to smash your head on the dash.

If you wanna stop people using your Cig lighter, do what I did. Upon trying to pull out the center display, just pull on the ash tray area insert as hard as you can. You'll manage to snap it into a few dozen parts, it'll become totally useless. Then you can either cover it over with cloth, leave it open, or put a Mac Mini in there :D

No luck though :doubt: - every pic on the dash has this area in shadow.
From what I can see, they look like the full width/wide ashtrays but i guess they're nicer inside.
May need to take a walk around a car yard to look in a TL/TW.
This would make a nice mod to someone who doesn't smoke. :D

I think they come unpainted... not sure.Is that for just the bit that slides in & out or opens up - OR - is that for the whole part/s - to replace the dash surround etc. as well?
hmmm  may need to visit the Mitsu dealer again.

*edit*
Found a pic :D ...

^^^^^ Bingo, that's the one. It doesn't slide out, it hinges on the bottom and just has a comartment inside. Nothing like an ashtray. And it should be just all one piece when you buy it. I very much doubt they would sell the parts seperately as it is pretty fiddly to take apart (which I did when I had it painted). TE through TJ people should note that it comes in a gunmetal silver like most TL/TW plastic consoles, and so does not match the older models.

And I'm sure MagnaByDesign will be back with a part number soon...

looks heaps better than the ash tray/light combo.

also agree with the braking into a million pieces. (stupid plastic clips)

Huge delay lol I've read through the thread, and I don't understand the problem people have, if you don't want people using the ciggie lighter, tell them not to

I wouldn't mind a rubber/plastic flip up cover on mine (ie. turn it into a 12v plug), but it doesn't bother me having the lighter in there (Not like I can see it, its the wide verada style tray). I use the ash tray to house an air freshener and the aux cable for my stereo :P

Because my car is awesome, the ash tray itself is chrome in mine, now why would I want to replace that  lol

Personally I didnt do mine to stop people smoking. I dont smoke so I did not see the point and I think it looks better too.

dam ciggarette lighters, a few days after i bought my car, i was showing it to my friend, he pushed the ciggarette lighter in, and when it was done heating up, it popped outta the hole and landed on the centre console, i didnt notice he pushed it in, or the fact that it was glowing red, i picked it up by the end, it left a nice round burn on the end of my finger that was the imprint of the bottom of the lighter and a nice burning smell in my car for a day or two, needless to say the lighter doesnt see daylight anymore...
