Hi all,
I found a KJ photochromatic mirror, and I noticed it has four wires coming out of it and disappearing into the headliner... What do these wires do? Obviously one is positive current and one is ground, I presume the others are a sensor of some sort? but to where?
Reason being I really want to retrofit this to my TR... Input would be greatly appreciated :D
Cheers folks.

I have one from a 380... Should be similar, it did originally have 4 cords however I only wired up 2: one for power, other for ground. The other two (or at least one of them) was for when your car is in reverse. It switched it off. I didn't feel the amount of trouble required to do this was worthwhile, as I'm not often in reverse.
The sensors should be on the mirror - one at the front, one at the back. When there's light shining on the sensor from behind but none from the front, it darkens.
Make sure you connect your power wire to something that comes on when you have your lights on...

been discussed sorta recently... also bear in mine the black plastic part that attaches to the windscreen... i doubt (but feel free to prove me wrong) that the curvature of the TR windscreen is same as the KJ, and u might need to mod that part to suit

What would be the use of having wires telling it when you're in reverse? Can someone inform me on what the rear view photochromatic mirror actually functions like? Does it automatically 'tint' itself when some bastard has his hi-beams on behind you? Please inform me, I am n00b and only know the magical land of second gen veradas lol

Yes, it tints when someone has their lights on behind you very brightly (ie. when there is more light hitting the sensor at the rear than the front). When the mirror is installed in factory and you have your lights on, when you put the car in reverse it stops it from 'tinting' so as not to obscure your vision while in reverse.

yeah it auto tints wen theres light on it (headlight and high beams), and has like a dark green tinge to it. the drivers (or both, cant remember) side mirror does it as well

Got one of these in my 2nd gen Wagon.
But it's not from a third gen.
It's from a US Diamante - bolts straight into the original 2G holes.
Now I've just got to wire it in.
I got mine from US ebay. Mirror wasn't expensive but postage was a killer.
Been waiting to get it wired up before posting it - to make sure it works etc.
Looks great - better than the stock rearview mirror.
Will post some pics (of it installed) when I can.
Until then - this is what it looks like... (pics from ebay auction)

The original reason I installed mine is because it doesn't rattle every time the bass hits in my music, unlike the original mirror. This thing is solid as a rock.

Give ya $50 for it :D
The other two wires go to the drivers side wing mirror to control that mirrors dimming.
It has two sensors. one at the front and one at the back. The one facing the front of the
car detects overall light (whether it is night or day) and the rear facing sensor detects
high light intensity coming from the rear. Thus, if the front one says it is night and the rear
ones says its very bright, both the rear view mirror and the drivers side wing mirror will dim.

Green tinge is when it is not bright enough. If a 4wd or truck is following me, it goes into
dark grayscale.

Do you happen to remember which wires go to power and which went to the wing mirror (which I won't need).

Nah, sorry mate. If you haven't bought it yet, try getting one for a later model Stateman
which only does the rearview mirror and not the wing mirrors.
