Hello! My first post here.

I have a late '97 KF Ei Verada and I want to replace the standard globes with LEDs. I have looked at brightlightautoparts.com and just want to make sure I'm buying the correct bulbs for my car. I would like to replace all the lamps (except of course the headlights and foglights), but I'm not quite sure which ones I should be getting. Bit hard buying stuff like this over the net without seeing the things in person. I have inspected some of my existing globes, and the markings on them never seem to correspond with what I can find online.

Also when replacing indicator bulbs I understand I have to get an LED flasher can to regulate the flashing of the LEDs, where exactly does this get fitted?

Sorry for the questions, pretty new to all of this!

Well for your parker globes im guessing its a wedge type T10??
Someone on here should be able to confirm that for the 3rd genner's

Unless you get the ones with 6 LED's in them (too bright for parkers for me anyway) there pretty much all the same mate

You are probably also aware that none of these LED replacements are ADR compliant - they all have the wrong beam telemetry and distribution.

In plain english - if you get pulled over, its a defect. If you have an accident, then you have an unroadworthy car and your insurance company suddenly doesn't want to know you.

They are just too damn dim - parkers, little 5W bulbs, yeah, OK(ish). But LED replacements for taillights and blinkers are just asking for an accident.

Really...never knew that....
i got my LED Taillight bulbs just for the fact that i'd never have to touch the pricks again ever.

True - somewhere on the box it will say that they are for 'offroad use only'.

eg. Jaycar (who sell these) state "Note: Only suitable for show or Offroad use only"

These units use 19 LEDs... And they still arent bright enough - trouble is, the size of the reflector/lens determines the distance visibility of the taillights much moreso than the brightness, especially at night. Ie. what do you see more - a laser pointer dot or a stoplamp - both are roughly the same brightness, just the size is different.

They only kind of work (okish) in dispersion (multi-faceted or fresnel) lenses NOT reflectors like the TJ and on 3rd gens.

I see...
you cant really tell from behind the vehcile though...They still look like normal bulbs.
point taken though..

but really if im ever involved in a crash *touch wood* will they really look at your light bulbs??

IIRC your model has dispersion lenses, and your reflectors are probably fairly non-reflective now - if you have wide angle, you probably wouldn't notice.

Insurance company will only look at your lights/bulbs if you have a rear-ender and someone complains that they didn't see your brakelights on.

If you lose it in the wet into a power pole its pretty bloody obvious that the brakelights didn't contribute to the accident.

i had LED bulbs in my last car, i didnt find the general brightness was a problem but more the lack of difference in brightness between lights on and brake lights on.

however i had a spoiler with a brake light with about 30 LEDs in it so wasnt too concerned. but with no 3rd brake light i'd have taken them out :belt:

Yeah, 2nd-gens have a fresnel type lense in them.

Wonder if Luxeons and the like would be acceptable, about 160degree pattern... but yeah, I still haven't found an authoritative answer on the legalities of LED "bulbs", I think it's getting to a stage where the respective road authorities need to publish some definitive guidelines.

I've got 20 Luxeon K2's arriving shortly...

go in to bright lights show room with the car and try the globes there - that what i did.
