hi guys just got my TL not too long ago so i decided to reset the ECU... after resetting i did the steps to put it in tippy drive ideal for like 30 min... after all of those... i felt like my car is slow/weak... its an auto and usually when i shift it to D it has this pull that pulls the car but now the cars feels like its just holding itself in position... another thing i noticed is that the rpm when ideal and aircon off in neutral is only slightly above the first maker which i presume is 500rpm... any idea how to fix the problem??

Keep driving it, idling etc. That's the only thing that will "fix" it, even though it's not really broken. It's still learning :).

What M4DDOG said. It's typical for the idle and shifting to be a bit wierd after resetting the ECU.

Milage varies, but I've found it's taken up to a week or two for the auto to become its old self again.

Which really makes reseting the ECU rather pointless.

My opinion (and also what I did after resetting the ecu) is to let it idle (in neutral) for a good ten minutes before you drive it to let it set up your idle level then drive it after that as for shifting it will sort itself out after you have driven it for a while.Yes mine is a auto and if you have done this then disregard my comments.:D
If you didnt, disconnect the battery and try it.

A week or two???? Doesn't it sound too long? A bad learner indeed..:D

its like when i engage in R... the car should move by itself without even tapping on the acc... mine does move but its so min.... i mean i am quite sure the idling wrong any way to rectify the problem? resetting it again??
ok is the procedures correct?
- disconnect 15 min...
- connect back set the Sedan mode and 3.5
- start engine in neutral... idle for around 15min...
- rev engine to 3000rom and hold for 10sec 2 times...
- on the air con... radio and lights... idle for another 5 min
- engage D and R let it roll front and back a few times
- drive for a long time....

Yeah, it does seem to take a while. I know I've had my auto stall on me a day or two after I've had the battery disconnected; so obviously it's pretty slow to re-learn.

It's all good in the end though :P

Where did ya find all these info, mate? I went through the Mitsi manual and part of MMAL repair manual, couldn't find much on that. All it says after the batter disconnection, it will take sometime for the Auto to shift smoothly.

I think you will find he found this info on here.I reckon I have seen it posted before. But when the RAA(NRMA) motor association replaced my battery they told me to let it idle for 10-15mins nothing about putting it in drive and revving it.

Takes up to 40 key-starts for the "new driving manner" to be programmed to the system. Not how many days or weeeks or km - it's the number of starts.
BTW - when I had to reset ECU for some works, I conducted the "recommended method" of idling and so forth, and the engine was like a sick dog! Reset again and just drove normally and allowed the programming to take it's course and it eventually became ok.

the problem with the mitsu ecu is they bulk ordered the chips from Idiot not Intel, but being on a tight budget they couldnt afford the re stocking fee....

so we are stuck with stupid computers

the actual process to re program the ecu is to start the car then get out and stand on one leg do the hokie pokie turn around thats what it's all about!!

it would be good for someone to investigate the correct process for both the ecu and trans ecu post it up and sticky it for reference
