Those of you who are in the RACQ might have seen the article in their magazine on the latest used car safety ratings done at Monash University.
It turns out that 2nd gen magnas still rate above average in their ability to help you survive a crash. Better than falcodores of the same vintage too. We're doing very well for a car designed in the early 90s.
A breakdown of vehicle performance is here:

Didn't the TS win safest large car of the year?
Did the TS win safest large car of the year?

Even though my car has no airbags? That's good to know.

RACV did a similar Safety article a while ago.
The 2G Magna did well in that one too.
Optional ABS and Airbag would have helped - would be interesting to know if these were fitted to the 'test' vehicle.
I think it did reasonably well in a Pedestrian safety comparison too (not 100% on that tho).

Its true that the magna was one of the safest cars on the road in its day, and there are some cars new today (can't actually remember the name of it) which still get a lower safety rating.
Personally, I just wouldn't crash the car and therefore shall never need to worry about it! :P

The name your looking for is BARINA, they are crap. Most small cars are crap also.
It use to say on here: http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/
But nothing is comming up on the 2nd gens, the safety was quite good, can any one load that page about TR/TS ?

Nah for some reason its not coming up at all, but thats ok, we all know they're pretty safe. Well I know from experience, years and years ago dad was in a nose to tail in the TR and nobody died in that accident, not that it was all that major (we're talking maybe 30-40km/h into a ute), put a nice hole in the radiator though. Who would like to try that in a Barina to compare? :rofleek:

The Vicroads PDF states it anyway, they are above average safety, nice and solid. For the year they were well built.
Id say they are very ideal for p-platers also, they are higher risk of hitting or being hit, and safe for everyone else.

When I got rear ended in my KR wagon, the Camry that hit me at about 45km/h looked like an accordion, whilst the wagon's tailgate was twisted. Very impressed...
