Hey everyone, I want to upgrade the stereo system in my 1997 magna altera, except i cannot figure how to remove the front speakers/speaker covers without taking the entire door interior off. There seems to be some bolts holding the speaker to the spacers, the bolts also seem to hold the speaker and spacers to the door. Does anyone here know about the best way to remove these?
Cheers

i recall M4DDOG writing up a quick step through guide..
it takes me less than 2min (honestly) to remove the door trims!
the grille is screwed on from the inside, dont break it lol

Hey mate
Thanks for that. I did end up removing half the door trim...It clips out up until the window frame where it seems to be stapled into the door panel, i didn't want to remove the staples in case i couln't get them back on...how would i get these staples back on without tearing up the door trim?

Another question while i'm at it.
The front speakers are 6' yes? i could take the speakers out and measure them, but i most as well ask while im here, the back are 6x9 yes? I don't want to order speakers of the wrong size lol.
front are 6", rear are 6x9 yes.
as for the staples.. once you have unclipped the plastic plugs from around the door trim, you just need to remove the triangular piece of plastic from the top of the door nearest the dash (this pulls off, 1 plug behind it), then push the whole door trim upwards and it will list off the door, easy as pie :)

The door trim is easy. Make sure you remove all 3 screws, the will be one under the door leaver, one in the air con round black thing and one under a plastic cover in the door handle. In the middle of the door trim you can put a long screw driver in it and gently pull the clips away. Then lift it up and it will come off. Takes 5 mins tops.
Front plastic stock holders will take 6 or 6.5inch speakers. Rear will only take 6x9's.

Amp is easy... blue signal wire and two rca's from the head unit... run to amp. Run 4ga cable fused from battery to amp, ground with same gauge cable to body. Run wiring to speakers/subwoofer... Tune accordingly.

Yeah i should have been more specific, thats no problem I'm an electrical engineer...the problem is i'm reluctant to take my dash apart and i don't know if my HU has RCA outputs.

dash deconstruction is really easy and only a 2min job... there is a guide on this site... cant rember the url... search for it if you like though
your factory hu does not have rca pre outs, if you dont want to get a new hu you can get the rca adaptor thingys where you connect the speaker wire to it and it then has an rca thingy lol
they sell then at autobarn etc... but i wouldnt bother, just upgrade the hu... wont cost much more and the sound would be better

Ah cheers mate
you people are really helpfull!
and yeah wiring diagram would be handy, but not a necessity, as long as it has RCA outs so i can rout it to my amp.
Once again your help is much appreciated! thanks guys :)
