currently own the stock KH verada sound system, with the stock doubledin headunit, 6cd stack and 8speakers
was wondering how many watts come out of the stock headunit?
to compare it to a aftermarket headunit, eg kenwood, pioneer etc
to figure out if i wud be getting more power out of the stock speakers?

What year is your verada?
Correct me if i am wrong but i think the speakers in the front anre 6' and the back 6x9's
I don't know exactly how much, but it wouldn't be much more then 20 watts definately. Decent aftermarket headunits are almost always better quality, most of them have more powerfull built in amps so you can hook up more powerfull speakers without destroying your head unit.

mine is a 2000 verada
yea my thought was as a temporary thing just change my headunit and keep the stock speakers, just coz im sick of the stacker.......and later on do the speakers, coz my mate is using his stock speakers in his TF off a sony headunit and seems to get more bass out of the speakers......
my 8 speakers consist of the 2 indash mid range speakers, 2 tweeders, 2 6" in the front, and 2 6x9 in the rear

Oh so you actually have 8 speakers...my apologies.
Yeah i had a 20cd stacker which came with the car when it was bought brand new. At that time it had more space then CD's i had lol.
Yeah i have stock speakers...and a panasonic vx303 headunit from 2002ish. Much much better sound quality, however the amp in it far exceeds the wattage capabillites of the speakers. so i get a bit of distortion once i hit a certain volume.

Your stock headunit would probably put out like 10 w rms x 4...
no headunit puts out 50x4 w rms. more like 19w rms x 4 max
Your headunit wouldnt be overpowering your speakers... what you are doing is driving it beyond what the headunit can supply which is causing it to clip.
You are hearing distortion

lol...sorry mate! I'll remember that for the future!
The stock speakers in the KH veradas are actually quite good speakers. You could hook them up to something like a Pioneer DEH-P4950MP and you would actually get quite a lot better sound from them, that meaning a richer sound with more bass.
The deck itself is most certainly the lacking component in the Verada's stock audio system.
Which is why Mitsu doubled the RMS in the KL/KW. My head unit is 20Wx4 RMS. I agree it's
still not 50x4 rms.

8 speakers,
i have a KJ verada, i have 6?
am i missing some
6x9's have a tweeter on them, they make up speaker #7 and 8 :)
Why has this been brought back up?
For those who care anyway, the speakers handle 15w RMS a piece, so its safe to say its a 10-15x4 RMS output from the factory headunit.

Nah. KE-KF have 6 speakers, 2x Doors, 2x Dash Tweeters, 2x Parcel Shelf. KH-KJ have 8 speakers, 2x Doors, 2x Dash Tweeters, 2x Door Tweeters, 2x Parcel Shelf. ie. They have more tweeters up front.

Newer model (KL etc) use a Toshiba TA8259H in the amplfier section. I know, because I ratted one the other week for it :) Makes a great cheap sub amp for a small, sensitive 10".
Its a 37W X 4 MAX (@14.4V, 4ohms) BTL chip, if you want to read its datasheet, have a look here
http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/toshiba/1391.pdf
Its real output is 24W @ 10% THD into 4 ohms @ 14.4V.

You shouldnt have 6. There should be 2 door tweeters (next to your side mirrors), 2 dash mounted "mid range" speakers (right up under the windscreen), 2 door mounted 6"s in the footwell area and 2 6x9s on the parcel shelf.

I think that came out in KJII.

Read my above post. KH on had the 8. I think the KL had 10 or 12 or something?
Parker has a Series 1 KJ anyway, I'm sure he'd know what he has :P
