just an idea i had and was curious about...
i know u can hav a 3.5mm headphone jack to a red and white of a RCA connection, for audio
BUT does the PSP also hav a video out aswell like the video iPOD.....so that the 3.5mm headphone jack has 3 lines on the pin and has a red white and yellow RCA at the other end of the cable
if so i was thinking to use the PSP as a screen in my car, and to also use the memory card in that to hold videos and songs to play thought my car speakers, once i buy a headunit i am thinking the PSP sound output wud connect into the AUX of the headunit but am unsure of where the yellow (video output) would connect, but i guess that depends on the headunit???

I don't know about the PSP
But if your head unit has a 3.5mm stereo minijack input, then you could simply get a 3.5mm minijack extender going from your psp sound output to your head unit.
Many other ways would be rather tricky unless you want to leave your PSP in the car permanently.

i wudnt actually mind tricky so long as the end result wud be video, without the cost of a video headunit, simply use the PSP screen as the screen for the videos.....and if in the future i feel the need get another screen most probably a bigger 1 then i cud just connect that into a screen input of the headunit i purchase
just realising now, is there any single din headunits that DONT hav a screen but hav the capabilities of screens to be connected?

The way i described would be best as using your PSP as screen and the car audio for...well...audio!
The 3.5mm extender would cost you about $4 from jaycar.
Not sure about the headunit screen thing..you'd probably have to hook the screen up individually, no doubt it would have an audio out, most likely RCA, in which you could hook up to the auxillary input of your headunit.

You can get 3.5 to 3RCA cables from dickies, and from what I know yes it does output video.

i have no idea y you would want a video out if u are using the psp screen as the display if im right u plan is to use ur psp to watch vid clips and so forth so all u need is audio out as u don't want the video to go to a different screen

Just put the vids/ music on the psps memory.. use the psps audio out and run it too the h/u... and BTW psps dont have any video in or video out puts unless u mod it... and im not sure but i think u need an xbox360 for the video output mod to work

doubt the mod works through a 360 as a psp is a sony product but yes if u want to use ur psp as a consol and a tv as the out put it can be done with a lil box that clips on the back and plugs into the audio out port and the usb port also seen ones now that hang on the front just google "psp to tv" or "psp tv adapter" but sounds to me like all u need is a h/u with a aux port of some sort and a pda holder that will fit ur psp

All you need is the 3.5mm to stereo RCA, no video needed.
Plug that into aux in your head unit, and wholah! sick sound from your PSP. Your video will play normally on your screen of the psp.
However! You also might be able to pick up a cheap LCD screen that has video in, and then plug the video in to that and mount that somewhere in your car. Then you'd need the video cable, this is not available with the early model PSP, as it does not have video out. There is a new PSP to be released this september that will include a video out plug.

so im an idiot for having a doubt i never said it wasnt possible i said i doubt and file sharing seems like a very weird and round about way of sharing video output
now im a big psp fan but if u wanted a kick ass hand held how bout a dual core one running good old open source linux now thats the kind of stuff my wet dreams are made of

thanks for all the responses
i wanted to hav a video out from the PSP so that i cud add additional screens......otherwise the PSP screen wud be sufficient and the sound for that wud play from the aux of headunit
will head down to jaycar this weekend and see if they hav the 3.5mm headphone jack to the 3rca connection for audio and video cable
and give that a go

You'll only need the audio cables, as the video will not output through the headphone plug.
It's audio out only, not video out.

ok well now i know first hand, the current PSP does not hav a video out from the headphone jack
although the newer models that are coming out in SEP are coming with a video out from the headphone jack...
there are ways to allow the current PSP's to be used onto other screens or tvs, but they are very bulky and dont appeal to me anyways
but i think i will just stick to using the PSP i hav at the moment as a screen in the car and just run the audio through the headunit with a normal headphone jack extension cable OR a headphone jack to a audio RCA connection, wat ever my AUX in the headunit has

there is a hardware hack that you can get from the uk and usa that you do to give your psp videooutput, but not input unfortunatly.
here is the link

I had mine connected through my HU Aux input and worked well,
the psp doesn't have the correct output impedance or a high enough output voltage to drive your amps even with the attenuators turned up high (something like 100mw max it will produce, depending on the amp they can take 3vrms or even higher, hence why man hu's have up to 6vrms rca outputs for amps)

Yeah I have to have my AUX SLA on +4 with my 6.5V preouts to get it to make some noise. It does go just as loud as CD's without boosting though, the EQ curve needs to be altered though :doubt:

i found if i would change between my psp and cd i would have to change the equalisation curve, luckily i can have multiple custom saved settings, in the end i found that it was too much trouble as i just changed to using a laptop with an m-audio usb high quality soundcard with 1.28vrms output (+10db) rather than the -4db (0.45vrms) that standard gear uses.
I have my psp forsale now with a 4gb card if anyone interested :P with all gear that i used to integrate it into my system.
If i don't sell it i'm looking at hardware hacking my psp, getting the video hack,
aswel as removing the opamp that the psp uses and either upgrading it to one with high slew rate, lower distortion, faster switch, or just taking the digital signal putting it through an external DAC to do all the work :D should be a nice project
oh btw the rca to the three rca's is pointless because the 3.5mm jack doesnt have video output on it...just wouldn't like you to waste your money

hey im not sure if its already mentioned, but the psp does not have video out-put, but unless you plan on having more screens there is no need for it. the new psp due out in a month or two will have video-out.
