I have owned several Sigmas with the 2.6 motor and they did not seem to have the overheating problems the later (TM,TN,TP,TR, TS) magnas have. Cracked heads, Blocks and blown head gaskets seem to be the norm. My GK had the 2.6 with 5 speed manual and was a very good drive. I now have a TS auto which has an apparent blown head gasket or cracked head. Anyone know what are the causes of this problem and how to avoid it? I picked my TS up last week for cheap and now know why. The twit who sold me the car suggested Chemiweld to solve the problem! If $10 Chemiweld does fix it, how come so many mechanics are getting $800 to $1400 for fixing the same problem?

It's the EFI system, runs a lot hotter, plus you have roller rockers and **** to add to the clutter, and the engine is sideways :P

Problems include faulty water pump, radiator cap, radiator or even aged head gasket. Having never worked on a Sigma I can't vouch for the materials used in their head gaskets.

By the way, my 2.6L head cost about $1600 to fix.

that's strange, i bought my TS SE with less than 120,000km on it and now it has done over 235,000km, never had any overheating problem or blown head gaskets. and i never even service my car regularly. lol

lucifer, youre right, these engines were never designed to run sideways! magnatse, your car avatar, is identical to mine. now I am seriously thinking about going 3l v6 auto.

the cause is water pump position on the head
the thermostat location
the small bypass hoses
softer head material
the alloy / cast iorn combination
thermatic fans
exhaust heat to the front of the block
less air flow around engiine
extra body work and plastic shielding
the need to maintain proper anticrossive and anti boil %

and many more

I spent $1600 on a head rebuild after mine cracked... Does that improve your mood?
