in NZ in the late 90's, Mitsi sold a Diamante 'Super Saloon'

It had the small bumpers of the magna and the 3.0v6, but the larger Verada taillights and multi parabolic headlights.

was something similar to this sold in Oz, or was it unique to NZ?

Later models changed so that the Super Saloon was the equivalent of the Verada Ei in looks/spec and was later renamed Diamante Ei, below the Xi

here's an example of one

hmm just looks like a hybrid magrada :P probably MMAL wanted 2 distinctly different cars, so didnt want something in the middle... i mean for aus it would have to either be a high-ish specced (and cost) magna, or lowish specced and cheap verada.. dont know if there would have been a market (and must not have if MMNZ only had one model of it ;) )

ahh i just found an old mag from '98, explains a bit.

4 cylinders came in Magna Exec and Magna Altera spec, then in 6 cylinder form there was Diamante Exec, Super Saloon and SEI (Verada Xi).

i guess when the 4 cylinder Magna was dropped they shuffled round the Diamante range a bit and the Super Saloon became like a Verada.

still, a bit funny we'd have our specific model, cos other than being called Diamante and slight changes in model name, they usually pretty much identical spec to in oz
