I found this rubber bung/cover - see pics - sitting on top of the transmission a week or so ago. It has "16" written on the top of it.
I've had a reasonable look around (air intake & battery out) but can't see a spot for it. It looks like it may cover a switch or even a diagnostics terminal of some sort (but I can't see it in my Gregorys book or the MMAL CDROM).
Any help appreciated!

I found the exact same rubber on my auto wouldn't have a clue where it goes tho :doubt: so just chucked it in my gloxbox
its the same shape as most bungs that are are used to plug the flywheel housing, you take them out to check timing. might not be, but if youve had a service, chances are they took it off to check and forgot to put it back on

Thankyou! The timing belt was changed a month ago... would it normally be removed for that?
Where exactly (top, back, bottom...) does it go? (I'm looking for that i my Gregory's again now too).

Oh-oh... we're heading off to Queensland with a camper trailer in a month. I hope we don't leave it and the back half of the wagon behind :-\

the access to belt pully from outer plastic spash guard you see when
you take off the passenger side tyre

If memory serves me right, and this is a stretch 'cause its been awhile, thats the bung that kept water out of the main plug on the auto trans while they were in transit from Japan and kept in storage before use.The line workers would fit the trans, throw the bung wherever, and plug in the loom. You might find others lying around if you look hard enough.
Looking at your pic more closly, its to small for the tranny one,but thats what it is.Its a bung to seal an electrical plug thats been left lying around.

Why is whenever you have work done there's always parts left over?:doubt:

hahaha tell me about it... I have about a jar full of bolts and screws and stuff which I have no idea where it came from around the car! Weirdest thing is that the car actually squeaks and rattles less than when I got it, and I still have yet to find a single missing bolt or whatever from anywhere! Who knows where half the stuff came from! :bowrofl:
