Ive been using these PureOne oil filters on my previous Laser since I saw them in Supercheap, however compared to the usual Valvoline, which are a few dollars, are something like $15 from memory, which is quite pricey. So I wanted to know what the difference inside is.

So today I cut an old one up, and took some pics of the inside. Im going to cut a Valvoline one up too, but couldnt be bothered today coz it was a bitch to do, seems like the PureOne case is really tough. To compare the difference, Anyone using any other filters, cutting a new or old one up and posting the pictures to share for comparison would be great. Also heard that genuine Toyota oil filters are supposed to be very good quality....

It's a good idea and I've seen it done before, I've been meaning to do it to some old ones that I've used.

I ran engine flush through mine 2 times in a row a while ago and both oil dumps came out black (10 minutes of engine flush at idle can turn new oil to old oil, scarey), so it will be interesting to open up one of my old filters and see if it was doing it's job properly.

Yes, when they were made in Japan, they were failrly good quality products. It's a shame now alot of them are being made in thailand, and Toyota continues to rip us off with the same prices!

An oil filter test/study to check out can be found here:

There's no point carrying out your own test, if you don't know what you're looking at!

Have been trying a few different types over the last 2 yrs of having the magna.
This is the one i swear by now:D the best thing about it is has a nut on the top for a socket to go over so it can come off easy.

Whered you find those K&N filters? Judging by what ive heard of their air filteres I would think they are quite good. As for quality, OK its not going to be very accurate or scientific, but by looking at how many pleats and quantity and surface of filter material would give you a good idea I think, I guess they are all different? This was my intention anyway.
