if you wanna be a lame ricer boy go ahead
There should never be a question of installing a cannon on any vehicle.

No cannon.
As for your question of installation, I paid $50 to get a cannon installed on a car in the past.
So $50-$100 depending on where you get it done.

Manual - Yes but only if you have to
Auto - no, i learnt the heard way
Go for a nice dual or quad tips setup:)
I've got a cannon on a v6 manual and I'm about to change it for a high flow generic oval because.. well.. it makes my head feel like there's an egg blender in it on full noise. Pure buzz @ 2000rpm, and idle you can barely hear it, above 3 its quite, at 4+ it sounds good but i just can't hack it at highway cruise (2000-2500). Plus when i do a bi-annual drive of 12+ hours the constant noise just makes me go loopy.
my advice, don't. I'm getting a normal muffler installed with some lame tip for $160, seems to be the cheapest i can find someone to supply and fit a NORMAL muffler for these days. However if the cannon wasn't so droney i would keep it because i think it looks alright, it's not a lame small round one, it's large and has a good rolled tip.
3.5" on your 4cyl will sound terrible too but hey, if you want to, do it and then you'll know whether you like it or not. There's only one way to find out!

Dont if your getting a new exhaust. get a sports or performance as it will sound better and actually do the job it was designed for. the cannons are designed more for looks...
Thats what i did and will do....

haha i did a lot of research when it comes to mufflers, i personally think cannons are loud no doubt, but they seem to lack that sporty note, most of them sound kinda "hollow", like a wet-fart if you ask me, i'v heard a few not-bad ones, but those are VERY rare, depends on what you want really, if you just want loud, or a big fat coffee can at the rear, go for it.
i have a sports muffler, Lukey i think is the brand, it sounds freakin sweet, VERY deep beefy note, and has a very nice growl when pushed a little, really smooth quality note if you ask me, not overly loud, but then its really deep so it doesn't really matter :P, it has a slight rumble at idle, and at cruising speed it has a nice soft note. you can tell the difference just by listening to the note really, complete opposite to ricers, which are loud, sloppy, and wetlol

Yea well id have to say im a moron cause his cannon sounds sweet....

thats a bit harsh:cry:
i don't have one on my current magna but the other one in the drive does (TS V6 manual) and it sounds really good i think. granted i have not driven it to far cos the front is all smashed up but when i fire it up i love it, sounds really deep and on deceleration it growls like a bull mastif with a dino bone. very loud tho, sets off alarms at 10 metres:shock:
I say go for it, instalation shouldn't be to much. It will prob just be as simple as cutting off the old one and welding the new one on. prob take bout 30 mins so $100 tops i would think

lol @ the setting off car alarms, mine does that... but to make it sound good, put two resonators into a full 2 1/2" system with a highflow cat....this takes out the "wet fart" noise and gives a growl noise and a *** loud ass blast when you floor it. NB: only for manuals....
Cheers,

Dont worry about this guy...he thinks his always right...
If you want a cannon, then do it. In all honesty, for your car I wouldn't. Installation should be $50-$100 MAX!

this system has no resonators in it at all:nuts:

ummm.... die?
seriously stupidest thing ever your head would explode with the crapness caused by twice as much drone and crapness... seriously thats like 10 inches of drone!!!! thats more than twice the legal limit of allowed exhaust droning, check your local rta though
twin 5s would prob be a bit much unless you has some really good resonators. i have seen systems with twin cannons both mounted on the same side in the stock spot and i think that looks really good but they are smaller, like 3 inch tops

If you get a cannon... I'll be using it to propel potatoes from the rear of your vehicle.

what sort? chat ones or brushed? i think washed would go best due to being more aerodynamic

Theres one problem there, thats photo is not of a magna!
P.S. Wonder if those exhausts help performance....hmmm

Washed and peeled.
If the cannon was anything like the one's i've seen, you could probably grate the potato on the inside of the cannon piping lol Bloody cheesegrater looking things.

if your in Vic i have a 3" tip sports Muffler that will bolt up to your car comes with flange and all...
$100 its yours:)
I have dual redbacks now and sounds better. i wish i had the money to try all different types of exhausts but i dont....
Seriously for the $50ish they'll charge to put it on, if you dont like it, get something else, some like it, some dont, only reason i got one cause on Science's 4cyl Manual magna it sounded ****ing insane! i couldnt care if it was a cannon on the end or not it sounded awesome.
etc etc

Sorry guys, I think they sound retarded, so does most of the population.
You know when their heads turn around when you drive past, there all thinking "What a wanker" not "Fully sick bro"
I know it sounds great when your in neutral and give it a rev, but when your sitting on the highway at 2225 revs all you get is a drone.
CMON guys, classy not rice!

If it's loud enough to set off car alarms its just stupid.
Sorry, but it's just to loud. It's like that annoying kid at the pool when you were kids that always made his mum watch everything he did, just after some attention.

well they dont realy need to be 5' i just want ones that look good on the body kit i want (click on avatar) and suit a lukey exhaust manifold
Resonators? sorry im only aware of headers, catalitic converters and mufflers are.
what would be the best setup to make them quiet ?
Trotty

The only way to keep the noise down is to add a resonator and/or ceter muffler.
IMO the magnas dont suit cannons. They remind me of cheep n nasty hyundai excels Baaaaaaaaarp! Pop Bang Fart...........lol
resonators are designed to remove the resonance from the exhaust note, turns the exhaust from a pulseing air flow to a more steady flow, which reduces the nosie. A cannon is essentially a resonator with a bigger outlet, so a real resonator looks like a cannon mounted in the piping of the exhaust. see the pic attached
if you want to keep things quiet then add more resonators and mufflers, price goes up accordingly of course.

oh thanks heaps Doug
Actually not true, most resonators have a largely dimpled surface (Funnily enough looks like the inside of a intestine) while cannons have the same design principles as a normal muffler, the tube in the centre of the muffler is peppered with holes with glass/steel wool in the outer to absorb the noise but since there isn't much room there and it's straight the majority of the flow is straight out, this is why performance mufflers with a kink in the inner pipe are quieter because the air flows straight into the sidewall of the muffler and then back into the flow causing it all to spread around the muffling material instead of just out. Some people sell off barrel mufflers as resonators, true resonators cost about $60 for a 22" hotdog resonator where-as a barrel muffler is more $100+ for a long one, barrel or round mufflers are just like cannons and sometimes sound better!
Watch also as you can get different length resonators which will obviously muffler more the longer they are etc..

well, they do the same thing, quieten it down
