View Full Version : clutch bleed nipple?

It seems my clutch/gearbox problems were entirely due to a lack of fluid in the reservoir. The fluid issue has now been remedied, and the clutch reservoir is now topped up. But the problem is still there even so, and so I'm thinking the system should be bled as the next step. However, I have no idea where to bleed the clutch from? There does not appear to be a bleed nipple on the clutch master cylinder, and it's a bit tricky following the lines to see where else it might be. Any assistance/tips for bleeding the clutch would be most appreciated! Thanks.

how long since you filled up the resevoir?

I filled it up on Saturday afternoon, but haven't driven all THAT far since...maybe 20km. Is it just one of those things that can take a while to work itself out? It would probably still be worth bleeding it anyway, I doubt it has been done in quite some time, and it would be worth it just to know that the fluid is fresh, if nothing else.

Matt: where specifically should I be looking? The clutch MC is attached to the gearbox, and that's easy enough to find...but a line goes in, and a line goes out, and there's no bleed nipple in sight that I can see. I'm assuming it would be the same in appearance as a brake nipple, but can't see anything like that in the neighbourhood.

when i had the same problem back in june i didnt bleed it. i just pumped the clutch a few times before i drove the car and it sorted itself out about a week after filling the reservoir

clutch blled nipple is on the slave cylinder. Which is mounted on the front of the gearbox(assuming yours is a 3rd gen right?). If you pop the bonnet, look down between the gearbox and the radiator, just up from the cross member. It will be a black block with lines going to it and a rubber boot on the front. Hope this helps.

Now someone may be able to help me, what is AFAIK?

No, it's a 2nd gen, not 3rd.

so far so good...I pumped the clutch for a while last night before driving off, and that seemed to make a huge difference - pretty much business as usual, actually. Today I've just pumped it once or twice, and it's still working just fine. See how it goes, but thanks for the tip, seems to have done the trick!

these have no bleed nipple as they self bleed in use, as you have found out by doing it. once it is working, check your fluid level again and top up as neccessary The actual procedure for this is just to sit in the car and pump the clutch pedal SLOWLY 20 times before trying to drive the car.
