A little help please. I recently purchased a TS 2.6l Magna, cheaply and now I know why. I find bubbles in the radiator water. Obviously a blown head gasket (at least) but can somebody run me through the steps to change the gasket please?:doubt:

Definatly not for the amature mechanic, but its a easy process if you have the right tools and even a simple Gregorys manual.
I have done a handful of Astrons, and the best bit of advice I can give is to try find a timing chain tensioner kit and do it while you are there.

yep, with the right tools and some time its not too hard to do (me and my old man did it on the cressida whch is a bit more messy than the magna) and its fine ever since.... *touch wood*

Take it from me, only attempt this job if you are familiar with the engine in question. If its a 2nd car and doesnt need to be up right away, make sure someone is there who can help you out who knows what there doing.
Also use either envolopes or glad snap lock bags to put nuts and bolts in and write on the bag what each one is for.
GL with it all mate its really NOT a fun job

thanks again for the advice. I am not a mechanic but I did begin a diesel machanics aprenticeship a few years ago (48 years) and have been playing with cars for about the same time. I have rebuilt a few motors and done some transplants, the one I remember best was a friend drove his XW Falcon 6 cylinder sedan down from Darwin to Sydney to get me to change it to 351 V8. No problems, he drove it back to Darwin as a 351cid V8 go quick. that was when fuel was Super at about 18 cents a litre. Good on the oil companies and 10% GST
