As I removed my spolier, the boot lid now catapults to the sky whenever i remote release it. its quite annoying.
i bought new torsion bars for magnas without spoilers.

and i am having difficulty removing them. i managed to unhook the rear one from the hinges, but that doesn't help.

thanks.

You can also solve the problem by installing a Verada boot liner. The weight of the boot liner compensates for the spoiler. Problem solved!

lol, i've had this problem ever since i put a TJ lid on my TE. it rebounds a few times and you can see a deflection when you release it while look in the rear view mirror...... probly not real good for the car but ehhh.......

It worked for me, I kept the spolier though, but when I put in the boot liner, In the wide open position, if I nudge it, it now shuts like a guilotine. I'll swear one day its gonna chop someones fingers.

slip some pipe over the end of the bars to get more leverage yes be careful they will bite.

Boot Liners are from the Veradas Ei and Xi models. Best to get one from a wrecker/2nd hand or ask around the AMC forums. Not sure of new price. They do muffle the vibration to some degree, but don't know if it will solve you sub vibration problem, as I don't have subs. You could put sound deadener and then cover it with the boot liner to enhance the appearance and make it practical at the same time. It also enhances the appearance of the boot when it is in the open position as it hides all of the holes and frame work. The holes in the boot are already there, and the boot liner just clips in place. 5 sec install. As an added benefit it also weighs down your boot and is an alternative to the torsion bar solution.

the safest way i found was to use a tyre lever like the ones on the older fords, its long and has a sharpened bit on the end to get the hub cap off and angled on the other end (the magna one's no good) line it up with the edge of the spring part that locks onto the boot, then lever it against the rear of the boot. with a bit of wood push the hinged part away from the spring and release slowly. (use wood in case the spring slips its goodbye fingers) make sure u have someone else to hold up the boot.

there is no way a boot liner will add enough weight, it only weighs like 500g at most.

If you get the boot liner be sure to get the buttons which hold it on from the wrecker too. The little buggers are over $4 each if you get em from a dealer!

If you get really stuck removing the torsion bars (and remember you then have to put tension on the new ones when you put em in) go to a BMW dealer (better again if you have a mate who works at one). When I used to have a 535i I needed to add heavier bars after I fitted an M-Tech spoiler. The dealer did the bar swap in less than 5 mins cos they have this neat tool to do it. It's a long metal rod with two notches cut in the end of it to grab and twist torsion bars in/out. Very cool. Very quick. No damage to cars or fingers.

im sorry dude but your giving bad information

i have a bootliner and it weight 1 100th of a spoiler and wont help in his case at all!!

a ton of sound deadening will only slightly help but not greatley either!

the spoiler is located obviously on the edge of the boot, deadening will be evenly distibuted on the lid... if you build up the mass at the tail end of the boot it may help some, to counteract the extra leverage

as mentioned be careful, wear thich heavy gloves and be quick!!!

i'd personally just get a little bit of lead as some ballast to slow it down some

to the person who asked about the deadening propities of the boot carpet... it does nothing

my sound deadened boot barely lifts when i hit the release button, and wings are plastic and fairly light, so i'd say a good amount of sound deadening will stop it flying open

not really sure what your all say about being hard takes all of about 2 mins to do.

first of all open you boot jump in the boot out the back of the car. shut the boot on your legs, not to had might hurt.

then where to boot part goes onto the rods pull the rod back so the boot bit comes off, as so as you have done this there is no tension on that one. slide it out. do the same for the other side.

then do all that but the other way around. very easy.

if thats a bit rushed pm me will explain it more
