Alrighty today I fitted my 16" speedy ravens on my car, my project is finally finished!!! They look pretty good too, some minor flaws but for what I have invested I am very happy.
My Question: My 16" mags are fitted to 225/50/R16 tyres, i do not have a spare rim except for my original rims and tyres 205/65/R15. Is it okay if i use this as a spare? Is it legal?
P.S. Does someone have the link to that tyre size calculator that shows speed differences?
Cheers

i wouldnt do this for a front tyres so you would need to swap a front for a back then wack the spare on the back. i wouldnt drive fast with that tyre at all and THEN i wouldnt drive far.
you could try get a tyre to make the old spare the same diametre as the current 16s wich should be ok like i said above for SHORT rescue missions.
i have seen space saver tyres in newer cars different widths but not diametres (tho i may be wrong) so i doubt its illegal.

You usually only use Spares to get u going till u buy a new Tyre??ie.Short period of time 8)
That's the way i see it anyways ;)

Yeah i know but i am just concerned that if I get pulled over and they look at my spare tyre they will give me a yellow sticker, thats all i dont plan on putting it on the car at all.

mate if a copper was that determined to defect your car that he'd check the diameter of your spare then im sure he'd manage to find something else to do you on anyway so i wouldnt worry about it. and as long as you put it on the rear and dont drive to fast or to long on it it shouldnt be a problem at all.

If you treat them with respect and explain the situation then I'm sure they'll see your point of view. Keep the stuffed tyre in the boot but try to get the tyres swapped as soon as possible. I'm getting directional tyres today but the spare tyre will be non-directional. The main tyres meet and exceed the load limit but the spare doesn't. I'll be fixing the tyres as soon as possible if I have an issue. Doubt you'll have an issue with slight differences in rolling diameter but it's probably not something you want to have all the time.

ditch it and use tyre weld!

There about the same, 492 revs/kms for stock compared to 504 revs/kms for your new tyre.Speedo will now be 2.5% to fast (speedo 100kph, actual 97.5kph)

Tyre size calculator is http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
As everyone has mentioned, don't drive it for long distances at high speeds
and you'll notice a height difference, the corner with the spare will sit a bit
higher.

I've noticed lately that some of the cars with fancy factory alloys now come with an alloy space saver spare that's yellow. Looks really funny when you see an HSV with one yellow wheel!
You won't have any problem with your spare. The difference in diameter isn't going to cause you any hassles, and it is still fully rated for your car, not like space savers that have a speed rating of 80km/h. Your car will only look silly, that's all. I hope you kept the hubcap for the spare too :p
My wife's car came from the factory with directional tyres (only 205/65/15s), and the spare is also directional, so when I put it on the wrong side of the car it is going in the wrong direction, so that should be fixed early or there could be traction problems in the wet.

yeah i suppose everything is okay, the tyre has >50% tread left and is in great condition, i do not plan on putting it on the car at all (unless i get a flat tyre or something). I will just keep it in the boot so that if a cop does pull me over i dont get a yellow sticker for having no spare

I've driven around with a stock spare tire for 1 week before getting it changed, it didn't feel much different, it was the front left as well, no problems. you should be fine too.
I had 225/50/R16 on the other 3 wheels and had the Bridgestone stocky on the front left.
