Guys
I just thought I would post what I think is valuable information from a recent experience regarding ECU fault codes and a leaking heater block.
My 97 TE V6 would periodically lose power but only when the engine was warm. Several ECU codes would register, TPS & TDC, but no fault could be found with these components.
I decided to brace myself and my wallet and took the car to Mitsubishi for them to investigate. They had the car for several days and tested all the components and swapped various components from a recent trade-in to isolate the fault.
Turns out there is a leak in the heater box that caused water to drip onto the SRS and ECU units causing an intermittent short in the connectors. This explains why the SRS light has periodically come on, why the fault was intermittent and why it occurred in winter and after the engine was warm.
The guys at Mistsubishi have been terrific. They had their foreman working on it for several days and have only charged me for the replacement parts (TPS & ECU) and blocking off the heater. I will replace the heater myself later in the year and before next winter. The bill is $1,200 but I commend Keystar Mitsubishi in Morayfield, QLD for their handling of this issue.
cheers
Derek
