Hi guys was wondering if anyone could tell me if the O2 sensor on my TL is easily replaced?
By the way how would we determine if its not working?? the mechanic just showed me on the scanner that its not sending in correct signals holding at around 20-40mv when he revs the engine...
if it's anything like other magna's it's easy. It should be under your car around where the gear stick is in the car, you'll just need a shifter or open-ender to unscrew it from the threaded hole in your exhaust.
They're pretty simple devices, at different mixtures it gives different voltage readings, kind of like an air sensor (Where temp makes it adjust fueling), the more fuel that is on it gives it a higher or lower resistance therefore the reading back at base (ECU) will tell it to adjust the ratio.
They can be "reset" by pulling them out and hitting with an oxy torch until red (not white, and no, don't use your cutter bit.. you can't melt it!) and then replaced as this will burn off any residue that it may have coating it giving constantly false readings.
To test it, throw your car on axle stands when cold, turn the car on, not start it, get a multimeter and check it's voltage reading, now start the car (with the multimeter left in backprobe-style and you NOT under the car) and watch the multimeter's readings, i forget what's normal and what's not but that's basically it, but you'd have to rev it so the sensor gives a differing reading. Something else to know is when your car is at (>65%?) partial throttle it's in "cruise mode" with already set a/f ratio but when you plant it, this is when it's in "live mode" so to speak and actually listens to your air and oxy sensors and adjusts your timing etc (knocking, but i don't think your motor has that).
Hope i helped!

If your car is using way more fuel than it should, and you don't have a lead foot, then your EGO sensor is definetely the culprit.

i can smell petrol burning rich but still i think the car runs alright with around 14l/100km...
the thing is that the mechanic reckons that the o2sensor is not working as it doesnt show anything on the scanner. i am willing to part with the $100 for a new sensor but just dont want to get ripped off as i made him do my transmission for free... reason being that i just did a rebuilt on my auto transmission and its still giving me a bit of a problem... he fixed the problem saying its a sticky valve... i was wondering if he was trying to do a bluff as i dont remember that an auto transmission has valve...

The electronic transmissions have valves that are operated by solenoids and yes they can stick. Some are affected by heat and make this more likely.

How is it, the moderators hover around, closing EVERY SECOND threads about legit stuff, but repeat threads just keep popping up, over and over.
Profit?

anyone has a pic of a photo of where to locate the o2 sensor?
getting one from repco at 20% off and was wondering if i should get it fix at the mechanic or DIY... heard from a mate driving a lancer that its as simple as unscrewing disconnecting the wire beside the sensor and replace it... claim that its a 10 min job... but then again its a magna TL which took me 1 hour to just replace my front globes...:D
Ha all i got a TJ the fuel consumption is a worry cause i always get the same km per tank since i got it 550km to 600km out of 55 to 57l and now its getting 510km per tank out of 60l and i had this problem a while back and it just come good for some reason. Now its **** again wat the problem.?

You can get oxygen in ebay for $60.5 plus postage, then you can just do it yourself.
