Hey all,

I know this question isn't about magnas etc, but I was talking to my friend who recently fell of his motorbike in the wet, damaging the headlight, turning signal and cutting a few wires.

He tells me, that after riding it home from the repairer, he left it sitting for a few days. Since then, it won't start. He's got a fully charged battery, a new spark plug and he tells me that everything else is kosher. He says it turns over time and time again, but just doesnt start. He's told me that he's tried to push start it, with it starting and stalling straight away.

It's an old Kawasaki 250cc with elec start.

Anyone got any ideas?

He has probably just flooded it, but you said he rode it home,

So, If it has a Kick start (which it should), tell him to use that instead. The elec start isn't always strong enough to turn the motor over.

as he said....

but what i'd do is check everything is ok...then bump start it put it in 2nd and heep pushing it, down a huge hill is easiest...

my yamaha for the life of it just would not start sometimes!! and this is all that worked...

could be blocked fuel lines flooded etc...

just hold the throttle at wot and release once started...

it's hard to explain and sounds dodgey, but i could get it started lol

throttle wide open and try push start it so it kicks over a few times, then try start it with no throttle.

No 1, Petrol. Make sure it has petrol as he may have left the fuel tap to on, or even worse, prime. The repairers may have only left him a little bit as well.

2, kill switch, make sure he didnt bump the kill switch to off

3, sidestand and gear, make sure its in neutral. if you try and start it when in gear or with the sidestand down (or some weird combination) then the bike might not start.

If all the above doesnt work, unscrew the spark plug and spray some starter spray in there(anything highly combustable/flameable) and put the plug back in and kick start it.
