i've got an idea for mounting my lappy of the dash of my TH. i figure it has the coolness of a diplay and a whole heap of other things. i plan to fabricate a block the same size as the tray thingy under my head unit. the extend an arm of it that can secure a tray that pivots.

if anyone has a better or sucessfull idea i would be very interested to hear it. :D

sounds like a great idea. i was just originally gonna have it sitting on the passengers seat, power from the aux 12v slot, headphones out into the amp, and play away.

I might buy some stuff from bunnings n try it out.

I cant really see any problems with it other than the stand would need to be pretty strong, and no sway when cornering. other than that sounds like a great idea for dvd's game's mp3's etc

I use my laptop at the moment, using the head phone jack into the head unit (AUX). Works really good. I have Video out on my laptop so I'm thinking of getting a screen and running it through that with a cordless mouse/keyboard and just stash the lappy under the seat.

Also a good Idea.

i think i'd remove my head unit if I did this, and use the empty slot to have the stand coming from, then just send audio out to the amp...

My Ts has a computer built in, the lcd is attatched to the dash through the gap between the center air vents (where the clock would be)

heheh I built a car computer as well. I used to run my PalmPilot which interfaced with the PC, and basically had velcro stickers on the PalmPIlot so it would hold on to somewhere on the console.

However i've taken it out a while back now, after the computer went flying across the car, lol. I think it broke my soundcard, so I havn't actually had time to fix it, and controlling it thorugh the Palm was actually a nuisance especially when driving.

But I am thinking of building a new one when I get a third gen (which was gonna be last month, but finance screwed me around, so I have another 8 months to go, do'h). It'll have heaps more shit too, gonna put Wi-fi, which would be utterly useless except for war driving. I might get a few mates to have something similar, that way we can video conference while we convoy, hehe.

Will also put a gps receiver so i get maps too, and i'll one day learn how to interface to the diagnostics module of the engine management system. And yes I do a whole lot of digital electronics for my degree....

Sounds like some nice work!

My laptop is only an IBM Thinkpad 600, so its pretty useless except for mp3s, vcd's, and possibly some emulated games

However, being a 14" or 15", its really too big to mount anywhere in the center console, but I am constructing some brackets to have it directly in front of the pasenger, sitting on the dash. I'm also making a custom shell in flash to allow very easy navigation.

Umm if you have the JVC dows it not already plave MP3's or is it a non mp3 player.

I also have the JVC, plays MP3 disks great, when playing the few original disk I have it pauses all the time.

Yah my deck plays mp3's, i havent had any trouble with it skiping though.
the reason i want to have my lappy mounted is for playing DVD's through the sound system in my car. i have an ibook g4 so it is ideal.

i have made an alluminum tray with all the necessary cut outs for air flow, cable and disk access. if i wasn't so lazy i would probably have had it finished by now..... but.. Damn it there's no excuse for lazyness.
