What kinda sub setup do you think I should go with

Amp:Two channel

What it can do!

2 x 420rms at 2ohm
2 x 300rms at 4ohm
1 x 840rms as 4ohm

What kind of set up/sub etc would you recommend?
2 subs? ---- one big one? ------ 12 inch? ---- 2 x 10inch?
Nice clean punchy bass …. Going for quality sound here…. not 2 boomy

Any suggestions appreciated!!

A common myth is that larger diameter subwoofers can't produce tight punchy bass, and can't really keep up with fast paced bass (double kicks on a bass drum for example) This is a load of tripe, my 15" keeps up fine with 10" subs. Pick the right subwoofer and you'll have a wonderful time :)

I recommend a single 12" or 15" subwoofer... You appear to have a bit of wattage to play around with so perhaps a nice large JBL, Infinity, MTX or Rockford Fosgate subwoofer?

depends on budget, and what sort of quality is that amp? could list high SQ subs, but without the amp/headunit to match the capabilities :)

all comes down to budget, budget, budget!

$100? Pioneer 306C (not 307C, the coils seem to be made out of cheese)
$300? JL W3, Boston G2, IDQ, Peerless XXL (my vote goes to the IDQ for that clean, crisp awesome bess)
$600? Oz Audio Matrix Elite, Boston G5

there are other options, but its early and im in a hurry, tell us budget and go from there!

FUSION ftw! well thats what i think anyway, ive got there 1200rms comp sub and litterally it looks like someone is trying to kick there way out of my boot! lol, whatever sub you get, just make sure you can power it nicely with a good amp, then you'll be happy with some tasty bass to boot! even JayCar **** is supposedly awesome and reasonably priced as well

hmm I was thinking around the $600 mark or less …. If I could get quality sound out of something cheaper… I might run with that …

I was thinking bout getting the boston G5…. But would like some advice b4 I go out and get one………. Any one running one >? … what do they have running it? Whats it rated power…. Lol there stupid brochure doesn’t say?.......

The other sub that iv seen around is the square kicker… but apparently they are more boomy? This tru? can you get good sound out of one of these?

the boston G5 looks like the most likely ATM … but if there are cheaper alternatives …………

I would go with something like a 12" MTX subbie hooked up to a mono block amp of sorts.

I think they're rated at 450w, which if you think about it, is more than you could really use when driving, if you want to stay legal :)

ID Max
Treo
Boston
RE XXX
Phoenix Gold
Digital Designs
Diamond Audio
Earthquake Magma

Aim for one better sub over 2 cheaper subs, the ONLY difference more subs make is how loud it will go they will not sound any better.

If you want a louder setup buy a quality sub that can take the power. You have enough power behind you.

As with everything sound deadening is a must and will enhance the sound of your subs (so ur not just listening to rattles.)

i agree i have a mono block mtx amp powering a 12" mtx sub with beautifull sound quality.

i reconmend http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/thunder7500.cfm

but like whats been said it's hard to sugest much without knowing what amp it is??
it should have a Frequency dial on there if it's any good, that way you adjust that as you please also try and match the sub's Frequency Response to the music you like to listen to. and just small things like getting the box built according to the specs of the sub it dose make a huge difference than useing a pre-built one. *some may dissagree*

opposing a few 'opinions' here, mine is only an opinion too.. but its pretty much the general consensus throughout the car audio community.

you can do a lot better than mtx for the money.
you can do a lot better than fusion for the money.
you can do a lot better than clarion for the money.

if you can get to any local competitions, have a listen to some of the subs people are running there. buying unknowingly isnt a very good idea (though i tend to do it every time i buy something new :))

for your price range, personally i'd get a JL W6 if you can find one for the price.. they are one of my favourite sounding subs to date.

as for the G5, its rated at 400W RMS, will take about 700 nicely.

i agree with woob

if you can buy it from jb, strathies or anything similar DONT buy it

your better of going to stylyn, phatt or whatever you have in your state and buying something quality

think: focal, morel, hertz, ID, JL etc

these kinds of brands represent better value for moneys

im just making a point now.

but as people have said, stay clear of jb and the likes.

head over to mobile electronics Australia and have a read through the 10 billion pages on what is and isnt a decent sub,

but as i said before only you can pick the perfect subbie for you.

The amp is a dub6002 made by audiobahn --- its semi “comp” stuff branded by DUB. And yes it has a Bass freq. dial along with other various dials, the only thing I can think of that It doesn’t have is a phase shift control which I don’t have a need for as yet

Its rated power:
2 x 420rms at 2ohm
2 x 300rms at 4ohm
1 x 840rms as 4ohm (bridged)

That’s the amp ….. now for the sub………..??????
Im looking for a sub that runs @ 800rms with no trouble.
(I would prefer a speaker that keeps getting louder until the amp cant supply any more power… without making any funny smells that make driving funny)

Sound quality = good

And if I can swing it:

Price = low

There are lots of brands out there….. but all I need is just one dam fine speaker…

plz help

there have been some good suggestions but more wanted……

Keeping in mind that this amp can only run one sub bridged at 4ohms
--- So either a 2ohm dual voice coil
--- Or a 4ohm single voice coil
(Lol or a 8ohm dual voice coil)

Thanks guys … for the advice … but feel free to give more..

For money value the Kenwood 12' subs are great. I think 1500 watt peak and you can get them without box down at JBhifi on sale for about $150 or something ridiculous.

I would either go a single 12 or two 10's depending on the style of music. As you said you want quality of sound not massive resinating bass. Good punchy bass can be produced with two 10s.

I have a Boston G5 which is rated at 450WRMS, I give it 600WRMS all day. Boston usually recommend running off the GT28 ( 1300WRMS @ 2ohm  ) so it must go alright.

I would seriously have a look at Treo and Vibe subwoofers as well as the decent ones mentioned above. I did audition a Vibe space 12 and it was very very nice and a Treo 10inch was just so powerful ( better than the equivalent IDMAX imo ).

If you in Sydney go check out FHRX studios. You should also consider the amount of space thy make take up. The Boston was probably not the best sounding but their wasn't much difference however the Boston lives peacefully in a 1cuft sealed box which swayed my vote. :D

Ill jump on the bandwagon here.

Something nice and high-range like Boston or DD.

You'll be thankful when you get one :D

Also....kenwood...i learnt the hard way about them. CRAPPPY!
