Well what a bloody day....

Went into work to collect some documents I needed......

Walk and go to start the car, car turns over normally the idle shoots up then comes down and car turns off.

Try it again, give it some gas (its an auto) last a little bit longer then turns off again.

Say F*ck this, might aswell go get a haircut. Get my haircut then go and buy some cheap dvds...

Get back to the car it turns over, stays on.... drive for 1 minutes, conks out, switch on drives for 1 minute turns off (in the car park).

So park under a tree in the mcdonalds car park, call up racv and wait for him to arrive.

He says its either a sensor or the ISC, he adjusts the idle speed and car makes it to the mechanics. Mechanic checks it out, I told him it was idle'ing very very low and was causing alot of vibration.

It seems from this story its negative, well I got a haircut + got some cheap dvds + and now my car vibrates 90% better then what it did, no more dash shaking or anything, its awesome.

It seems that when the car was last at the mechanics, when he adjusted the idle it was set to god damn low. 500 in drive?

For all you out there who have rough idle in DRIVE at the lights, get this looked into, all it takes is a screwdriver.

Long story,,,,,,, woohoo

500 in D is factory setting I believe, although it could be 800?

I adjusted mine higher, as my other TR has its set much much higher (1000 in P) and it lost all vibration, however the way the car responded after that, to me, wasn't favorable. I changed it back.

The problem with raising the idle too high is that the car uses ALOT more petrol, it needs to be set correctly. Yes it clears the rough idle, however it needs to be set right

Mines on around the 700 and idle is smoother.

Not under and not over, 500 was to low.

Racv was only about a 15-20min wait, had to renew my membership over the phone :bowrofl: was due anyway.

At least I now have a haircut

1000 in P is excessive and should be brought down to about 700-800
mines at 1200 in P (lol) and i just havent got around to fixing it yet...
and yeah...i guess now russian you know how to fix your idle problems
might be worth taking off the inlet tube and seeing if your TB is all gunked up

I'm not sure how the second gens behave with the idle being too high, but I know that the first gens seem to idle way worse when the idle is higher, acting as if it's under load! Personally I'd recommend sticking with what the placard on the underside of the bonnet says... it's what it was designed at, and any setting other than it means the car will just take more fuel than it needs at idle :P

My ISC/TPS is getting worse. It used to idle in P at 1200 and in D at 750ish about 4 months ago. It still idles at 1200 in P but in D it isles at 650-700ish. I think its time for a checkup.....next service is due so Ill get it done then :D

Mine idles at 1000 in P and 750 in D. On the plaacard it says that it must idle at 750 in D, is 1000 in P over?

Correct me if I'm wrong but when you start it up cold isn't that roughly where it should be? The way our TR starts up when its cold is about 1300RPM when you turn the key, and slowly drops until after about 30-40 seconds its down to about 700RPM. Drive from memory is something like 650RPM, but don't quote me on it, I'll look in the morning :)

You blokes need new idle motors. 1000rpm in D is way too much. The factory setting is 600rpm. I had the same problem in my old TS. I udjusted the idle speed and it was idling to 1100rpm. Worked for a while and no more vibration from that crap 4cyl astron but became uncomfortable as the car felt like it was trying to go while I put the brakes on.

my idle speed sits on around 2,500-3,000rpm when i first start up the rx8.. takes a while for it to come back down, then usually sits on 900..

you guys would nearly be redlining at at 2,500 :P

:D

feels weird now gettin back into a piston-engined car or worse, a diesel as they just dont rev like a rota..

I have run premium in my car for over 2 years, its why the engine has lasted this long, and im able to thrash it still.

For those who argue about premium:
And no, im not gonna miss the 10Cents extra it costs me, I couldnt care.

i want a series 5 FD... :shifty:

FD was series 6....I love the FC series 5 though...if i had more cash i'd get a FD though.

Yeah, rotaries (later models) had a warm up procedure where the engine would rev up to 3000rpm. Rotaries are awesome :D
