View Full Version : damnit no longer have clean license
Got stopped last night doing 105 in a 70 zone (3 lanes wide, empty road at 10pm). Damn new Magna is deceptive with speed compared to the old one, i had no idea i was goin that fast.
Got caught with radar. Policewoman was very reasonable indeed, and decided to only charge me with being 15kmh over the limit instead of 30kmh. So i guess thats a $230 fine and 3 demerits
Oh well, we live and learn.

thats a stupid excuse!
look at the speedo from time to time:gtfo:
Its not an excuse. I dont have one for speeding.

Yep, the new cars seem to just go without you realising. Found this out when I was going to lakes entrance and ended up doing 140 in a 100 zone...on my L's! Was a total accident, not aided by a small downwards slope.
Gotta watch those speedo's when not on cruise!
Oh well, they'll be gone in 3 years, pretty sure it's three years.

Sucks. Been there plenty of times. Stupid thing is it won't stop you speeding.
haha i had to drive to bondi junction after that, and i didnt go a single kmh over the limit all the way haha. Amazingly, i averaged 7l/100km on a run when taking it easy

well seems like you guys need to gain more experience...
i can drive at all speed limits without thinking twice or looking at my speedo, its easy to tell your speed from the feel and engine revs vs gear your in and sound... i dorve a car for a few months with no speedo
and i can tell you that doing 30-40km/h over the limit is easy to notice!
i have had many speeding tickets so im no champ or legend or camry driver... all have been deliberate and not my mistake
more experience
I have been driving for 6 years now and have had only 1 no-at-fault accident that whole time, and this is my first speeding offence. I can drive perfectly well thanks very much lol
use the speed warning. at least you'll know your over
yeah i switched it off accidently and forgot to enable it again hehehe
yeah i switched it off accidently and forgot to enable it again hehehe
I turned mine off cause it's annoying, but at first it helps till you get use to the speed in the Magna and it doesn't creep up on you

hahah obviously you arent that experienced if your not aware of the speed your travelling at...
im not getting into arguements here
some ppl can drive well and others just know the machinery... i trust very very few drivers to drive me around anywhere... even dads mate who was a successful privateer circuit racer..
after riding bikes for many years it helps your road awareness

I know people have said its silly to not notice the speed your doing on some roads, 35km/h over a 70km/h speed limit is a bit high I admit, but I'm guilty to getting upwards of 60-70km/h before in 40km/h zones (like the school ones!) without actually realising.... 80km/h in 70km/h zones is pretty common for me, but I always slow down when I realise...
I don't know about some people, but I do believe you get used to the car you drive....I drive a AE82 Corolla on a daily basis which if any of you know them require a bit just to get them to the speed limit, let alone over, when I jump in the TR I practically straight away take it up over the speed limit, not because I want to speed, just because I'm not used to the car.
Its just like you said, we live and learn, maybe it'll help you pay more attention in the future :)
yeah it sounds like you understand lugo. I will be paying closer attention to my speed. I am very confident in my skills as a driver, but i do now think that some stuff cant be controlled, like a kid running out in front of you etc

dude im not saying you arent a good driver
i drive various cars and they all behave differently, but after a lil while you get used to everything... im confident that i could drive my current car with no speedo and be able to keep it to the limit...
but thats proably also cos it goes so slow it cant speed ;)
i have only had the car a month or so. I used to drive a barina damnit lol

Should have told the cop that, they would be like "oh, in that case, well done for only going 35 over mate" then you could have got back in your car, went home and drank some grape kool-aid.

I too believe that it's dependant on the machine you're using at the time. I drive four different cars, so it's pretty difficult to get used to them all. When I managed 40 over, I was driving the 4WD, which I'm not used to going 100 in at all (usually in stop-start traffic on princes highway at 5pm).
I'm no pro driver, but in the time i've had my L's, i've only come remotely close to smashing when a truck almost rammed me from behind because I stopped a bit late.
P.S- The "overspeed" in the calais is EXTREMELY annoying, where at 99km/h it beeps. which mean you're stuck doing 95. so I don't use it. The big white digital numbers help ya out though.

Sorry monkey boy..If you can't tell the difference between 105 kph and 70 kph then you should hand your licence back...Magna,barina,camira whatever..just a pack of frig'en excuses.................

The speed alert in my old TF didn't have an off function, just had to set it to something high like 150km/h. Then everyone who got in my car was always like "WTF!?"
As for the speeding fine, bad luck, but lesson learned i'm sure. I'd rather be pulled over and given the ticket, it beats getting a nasty little letter 2 months down the track :doubt: I only have 1 point on my licence left (p plater), i got 4 points from 2 different fines within 3 months of getting my P's (had em about 9 months now), so don't you worry about not having a clean licence!
lol u think thats a bit much? :P
lol I don't feel stupid at all....Its fixed now, if you were only 35 over a 700 km/h speed limit I don't think you'd have a problem, I think it'd be more likely you got pulled over because the coppa wanted to know how you got a magna to cruise on 735km/h :bowrofl:
Don't blame me I've had a big day! lol

im in my 2nd year of my Ps and the first 6 months i had a couple of close ones. both times loosing control between 90-100kms. that was cos of inexperience. one was on dirt one was on bitty. over corrected on loose dirt as my car slowly veered to the right and lost it. the other time id rather not talk about. but since those incidents i havnt had another one and its been close to a year since.
now i no how easy it is to loose control. and im much more careful

Only car I have ever driven that creeps up speed with little or no noticable difference in engine pitch etc is a chrysler charger.
Those things are designed to eat road with no strugggle! Having said that, I knew I wasn't familiar with the car, so I was checking the speedo every 2-3 seconds and usually having to correct it by letting off the accelerator to take it down 5-10kph.

Not really... to lose control/spin at car at 100ks on bitumen you're basically being a dip**** and he obviously wasn't doing it on a track. Dunno about you but I'd kinda rather if he wasn't on the roads.

All I can is karma dude, I don't believe in it that much but careful what you say, one day it will bite you back in the ass.
That aside, it is quite possible to loose control on bitumen. It depends on the condition of the road (ie: some dodgy 100-110km/h twisty country roads with potholes and no emergency lanes, even roadkill). If its a main Highway or Freeway and its freezing cold there is still the danger of Black Ice (I've been in a situation where my wheels locked up for a good 50m before I gained back traction.) and if its blistering hot the road looks like water from certain distances (mirages).
But yes, if you do loose control of a car at 90-110km/h during a mild day on a city freeway or highway you are a idiot lol

thats stilll pretty freakin harsh ay, boys will be boys, who says that he does this regularly, it may have been a one off showoff thing, might have been running from bloodthirsty pygmies from the grasslands of the congo, maybe he just wanted to go home to his grape kool-aid, i dunno but that was fairly harsh dude.
sure it was a dik move on his part but meh, we dont know the circumstances.
dodgy tyres maybe? not used to the car?

Hmmm so you've never aqua-planed on a freeway?
I nearly lost control/spun out a few times on my P's, not because i was being a dip****, but because i was inexperienced and wasn't prepared for the aqua-planing that occured, scared the **** out of me though and now i know how to drive in these conditions, and i believe floater05 is in a similar boat.
tbh heres a few things that dont really add up
-new on the roads
-doing 90-100 on dirt
-embarrassed about the one on bitumen
driving resposnbily in a semi road worthy car it's not exactly common to lsoe control. clear as mud he was driving like an idiot yet people choose to defend him?
to answer maddog - yeah i have aquaplaned, happened to me last week doin 80 in a 110 zone when it was pissing down.
excuse the grammar.. working atm.

Mate you dont know this for sure, and even if he was we have all done stupid things in the past and yes im sure even you have as well, but here you are time and time again with your negative attitude and harsh comments.
I mean come on "do us a favour and die next time" no no thats not harsh at all :gtfo:

You're right - i dont know ti for sure but given the chance i'd give you pretty good odds on a bet he was drivign stupid.
and at the end of the day what's worse - negative attitude and "harsh comments" on a forum or someone endangering a bunch of peoples lives being a jackass on the roads?

I understand what you are saying and i dont condone such behaviour on the roads either, although he didn't actually admit to being stupid on the roads but most likely this is the case.
But to tell him to die next time is just a tad harsh imo and i dont think anyone deserves to die because of some mistakes they have made in the past, and yes i know you probz didnt mean it literally but it's still a bit much.
Anyways on topic i think that you deserve the 3 points and fine if you couldnt tell the difference between the speed you were doing and the limit itself, and if you honestly did not know the diff then i would be handing back your license asap!!

every one does something stupid from time to time. i was not being stupid wen i lost it on the dirt. however i was being stupid on the bitumen. it was a country highway that i had driven on many times before. it was at night. i was driving with another car. both of us had a full load of passengers. i was driving stupid and the other car wasnt. i also wasnt thinking about hazards, the other car, or wat could happen by making wrong decesions. the outcome. i lost control and all i can remember is the screeching of my tyres over the bitty. everything else is blank. the car stopped on the road, didnt hit anything, everyone was ok, just a bit shocked.
it was a one off thing and i was very lucky. i learned from my mistakes that night and havnt had an incident since. i havnt driven like that since, and i wont drive like that again.
now its the people that have incidents like this and continue to drive the like a dick head and continue to have incidents that dont derserve to be on our roads.
Geeze people, take a chill pill, relax a little bit....
Ok fair enough someone has lost control of their car before at speed on a low traction surface, whether they were being stupid or whether the conditions unexpectedly affected the travel of the car who cares, whats done is done, no need to get worked up about it! lol
Edit: From the sounds of things at least you can admit you did the wrong thing and have learned from that...no more need be said IMO, I can guarantee that all of you at some point or another have done something stupid in a car, its whether you learn from your mistakes or not that makes you a better driver.
