Hey guys! i went to the local car audio place today and priced a pioneer head unit
(Pioneer DEH-P3950MP) for $210 and then asked how much it would cost to get it installed, the guy said would cost about 110 bucks.
Is it easy to install them yourself? i have no experience what so ever lol.
I had a look for a tutorial here on amc but cant seem to find one?..

Thanks in advance
James

Well it's easy for me to do because i've done so many lol.
Was gonna say if you wait until december i'll be up in qld and can lend you a hand, but doubt you'd wanna wait that long :P.
follow the guides posted above, and if you're still not sure, leave it to someone who is :).

Very very easy.
Just make sure you remove and refit the air con vent controls properly.
I had to remove it all over again and re-do it because my vents wouldn't flick on and off.

Would it hurt you much if I told you you could go to Strathfield or Autobarn and get that same deck for $168? Thats the strathfield price, but if you go to Autobarn they will pricematch and then pay $66 install and that'll up the warranty to 5 years....but they really aren't too hard to install yourself, if your game :)

I'd agree with Lugo, it might be worth getting somewhere like Autobarn to give it a go. While I'm not a big fan of chain stores, it is only a headunit install on a very common car - I'd want to hope they could do it without messing something up.

Installing the headunit itself is pretty easy though. Take the console apart (easy job - I can do it in a few mins....) and unscrew/unplug existing unit. Drill new mounting holes if necessary, screw in new unit, wire up new unit, put console back together and you're done.

Wiring intimidated me, but you can buy wiring harnesses from Aerpro, which means no matching up wires :) I bought a Magna to "standard" (for lack of better word), then standard to Pioneer. Hooked up fine.

Do it, first time with instructions will take you about two and half hours tops including the wiring. Great first DIY stereo install.

Once you get better it only takes 30mins - an hour depending on the chit chat and amount of beverages consumedlol

I've seen the ads for that place on TV :P (I'm from Gladstone). I guess if it's the only store in town you don't have much choice. Unless you have to go to Rockhampton sometime for something :D
