I've lowered my KJ with Lovells Superlows and KYB Shocks with polyurethane bushes on the front. After a while I started to get pretty violent knocks from the front when I hit pot holes and what not. I just thought it was normal with the Superlows.
Yesterday while I was servicing the car I noticed this... :disgusted

I need some help identifying this broken part and some advice on what to do about it. Could this be what is causing the violent knocks?
Any help would be great...

looks like your bump stop has disintegrated. The knock could be your shock bottoming out now that there is no bump stop stopping it from doing so!!:D

im with you on this one. doesn't seem to be a bump stop there, thus in turn leading to the shock bottoming out on the strut tower.
if it's rubber then it's more than likely a strut top inulator (big rubber dohnut thats in between the spring and shock tower).
did u do the suspenion your self, is the other side missing one as well , if so u'll need a bump stop kit on kit will do both side. just a big hard rubber groment that slip down the shockie shaft but the rubber boot should be zip tied to it at the first grove on the bump stop.If it's metal im not sure what it is maybe part of the shock tower??

So you would have to take the shock + spring apart to install new bumpstops yeah?
crap:doubt:

Yep, they slip over the strut rod.

They're not too expensive, about $30, which usually gives you the boot as well. How thrashed are yours?

bumpstops are for girls!!
dont be a *****
that though is not a bumpstop problem
it's either the top cap of the strut, the bit that goes over the shock absorber
or something else to worry about
if there is any play you need a new strut top

i have kings superlows in the front of mine and it sits on the bump stops all the time. but my bump stops are about 2.5" long. i have to cut them down so i actually have some travel.

I lowered mine at the weekend and my front bump stops were rooted so i got new ones from Pedders (@ $20 each. With boot was $ 40 each.). Was gonna get rears too but they were asking $45 each so I didnt bother as I hadn't looked at them yet. The rear ones are totally different, they are more like a firm rubber disc and I think that is what is left in the photo. Doing the bump stops got rid of the horrible creking noise when going over speed bumps etc.
goto repco and ask for a strut mate kit about 35 bux get new bump stop and boot
