Hey guys.

I need a favour, and a quick one, needs answering asap for a mate.

Looking at 17x7" alloy's and are trying to find out if they'll fit a 2nd gen.

The PCD is fine, they are multi-stud and have 5x114.3.

Problem is offset, the guy selling has measured it as ~16cm, but what does that mean in proper offset terms? Will they run on a 2nd gen properly?

They were fitted to a Subaru Forrester XT if that makes any difference.

Thanks guys.

That isn't an offset measurement, an offset measurement will be something along the lines of +40 or nearabouts. So anything from +35 - +40 or so will fit your magna.

Didn't think Subaru hubs were suitable for Magnas.

16cm is how some people used to measure it. they used to work off a back spacing for the offset.

to work out the offset mark on opposite sides of the inside of the rim the middle of the width. then put a ruler or something like that between the 2 marks then measure how far it is from the edge of that to the back of the hub.

this diagram shows what i mean.

Thats exactly why I asked, I know +45 is ideal for Magna's, but generally speaking +38 or so to +45 is fine.

I'm not sure what most of what you said means but does that mean the offset is something like +16?

+46mm is the wheel offset for 2nd gen magnas (and i think 3rd gens too?)
It's in the Mitsubishi workshop manual.

Ok, for a 7" wide wheel, you need an offset of 40+, any less and the wheels will protrude
the guard (pushes it outside further). From memory Subarus use extremely high offset
wheels, something in the order of 50+ which meand it is not suitable for Magnas, the inside
of the wheels will be hitting suspension components.

According to this forum I found: http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic135292.htm
and this site: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/forester/forester2006.html
and this site: http://www.autoguide.net/apf/subaru-wheels_rims/forester-catalog.html

The offset is +48, would that be fine? Given its only 2mm over?

No. 48+ is fine for a 6" wide wheel however depends on whats on it currently:

1. currently running 205/65R15 tyres on 15x6 46+ --> 225/50R17 tyres on 17x7 48+ =
tyres are 12mm closer to the suspension components and 8mm further out.

2. currently running 215/60R16 tyres on 16x6 46+ --> 225/50R17 tyres on 17x7 48+ =
tyres are 7mm closer to the suspension components and 3mm further out.

So depends on how much room there is currently between the current tyres and the
suspension components.

Thanks for that vlad, as it turns out he didn't buy the wheels he was looking at, but I'll keep the info you provided handy for the near future when I'm looking :)

Thanks again :D
