So the shocks on my TS wagon are leaking, time for some new ones
Rather than getting some boggo Monroe/Midas ones i've decided to get something decent, but I don't really know too much about shocks.
From what I've seen so far on this board the KYB Excel-G's seem to be a bit of a favourite, but I'm also thinking about some Bilsteins.
I don't know what Bilsteins are appropriate for Magna's though. Would Bilsteins be worth it for mostly street use, or would they be overkill compared with KYB's?
The car's been lowered 30 mil by the way
I don't want adjustables, coil overs or anythign like that, just something that will sharpen the handling without ruining the ride.
Also, what kinds of prices would I be looking at for either the KYB's or Bilsteins?
Any other suggestions?
Cheers all

I highly doubt Bilsteins would be readily available/ even in australia, but you could try
The KYB's are about $110 a shocker, Very nice stiff shocker really

KYB V's bilstein is a no brainer imo
there is a reason they are about $600 a pr
BUT they are rechargable
Koni vs Bilstein, there could be an argument. KYB not quite the same league.

Koni yellow all around. You'll have the handling and will not ruin the comfort. Around $1280.

yeah but can you justify the extra dosh for the Bilsteins, are they really THAT much better, and would it be worth splashing out on them for majority street driving?
Thats why the vs, not straight out head to head but on a performance-for-money and real world difference level.
It all comes to personal preference, liking and the way you drive. For street driving any shock absorber will do its job. Monroe, Gabriel, Pedders (read: cheap) will not make you go fast through average roundabout but will get you where you were going. They will not last long, I would change them at about 50000 km. Note: shocks not necessarily need to leak oil to show that they are worn and not doing their job.
I dont have personal experience with Bilsteins, but people who had them say that they are stiff and ride is a bit rough on poor road surface. They are not rebuildable and last around 70000 km. They are more expensive than Konis.
I do have Koni yellows on magna. Rear ones are internally adjustable, you adjust them before they are installed on the car. Front ones are externally adjustable, you can change adjustment to suit the occasion. For every day driving I keep them on 1/2 turn, Great Ocean Road and mountains usually full turn.
Most of the time there are two people in the car. Ride is firm but comfortable. They are fully rebuildable. Cost $1280.
Can I justify spending that much for four shocks for eight years old car. I can. There is much more enjoyment when driving, I feel safer and also intend to keep the car for many more years. If I see driving like a chore or plan to sell the car next year then I would not do it.
This is just my two cents worth, it suits my circumstances and needs, it may not be to
everyones liking but I dont have problem with that.
