View Full Version : tr magna transmission probs help

hi guys i have a 1991 tr 2.64cyl last night (friday) i was driving home and my transmission wouldnt change gears and this morning i took it for a test drive to see if it was still not changing and it changed gear but onlu over the 3000rpm mark it wont go into final drive it basically stays in 2nd the gearbox when it was working was very harsh in the down gearing i sat up last night checking this forum for the anwser but couldnt find it but i did read a thread bout the TCU or TCM whatever it is called so this morning i went and got a secondhand TCM a reco one and hooked it up and nothing happened. still had the same prob can anyone give me a few anwser i really dont wanna hear "it MAYBE" cause im over that saying or if anyone has had the same prob can u tell me what u did to fix it cheers marty

I'll say with a fair amount of certainty, given that you've tried a reco TCU, that your transaxle has a serious internal fault. There's no way to pinpoint it without removing the box and pulling it to pieces.
How's the fluid level?

Did you get one from the wreckers or a real reco one?

Exactly the same thing happened to me , i changed my TCM cos my car was driving in safe mode cos it was recommended it was this .......
then it didnt fix so i changed my ECU aswell as the auto electrician said they drive in safe mode when their puters go too sooooooo saved myself the $650 quote i did it myself with a second hand ECU and its all fixed drives like a dream
Im no mechanic and geeeeez lol im a girl but i like to fix my car where ever i can , hmmmm so yeah look into it
