I gotta ask, are EL Gauges accurate?

I mean, I've seen a few 3rd gen's on here with them, and I can't help but notice they are in miles (kmh in small aye?) and go upto 120mph, at the same spot 240kmh would be on a normal cluster. Now I'm no expert but 120mph = 200kmh and 200 isn't 240.

Does that make the EL Gauges inaccurate, or is the needle adjusted to keep it accurate?

simply double the mph figure to get the CORRECT kmph figure. Ignore the kmph indents as they are incorrect on our cars. Also ignore the fact that 1 mile doesnt equal 2 kmph for these gauges.

20mph on the el guages lines up with 40 kmph on the real guages.
40=80

etc
etc

That sounds like such a pain in the ****, why would anyone want them? From what I understand, they are neither accurate in km/h or mp/h, so they're practically useless as a speedo.

Fantastic, well at least I'll have something to put in the FS section if I purchase the car I'm looking at with them...

they're pretty accurate - i've tested them with two seperate gps units and been within 1-3 km/h of being correct. I have no worries with them - its pretty simple to remember what speed your doing by halving the MPH reading.

Doesn't sound impossible to live with (obviously it isn't) but I would far prefer to have standard gauges that tell me what I'm doing than fancy white ones that tell me half what I'm doing.

Look at it this way, if I end up with a set I don't want, thats someone else's benefit on AMC isn't it, since they appear pretty hard to get.lol

so the halving figure only applies to the EL gauges cos 1 mile = 1.609 kilometres.

Its not a question of accuracy. These dont change your speedo at all!

They simple go over the current speedo. The indentations line up exactly inline with the other speed indentations. So it is as accurate as your last speedo if you line it up right. Only the scale is wrong.

All you need to do is double the MPH reading to get your KMPH speed.

Yes a tad annoying but once you get used to it it's fine. You just need to tell other people that drive your car (not that anyone drives mine) as this is where the problem lies.

Halving the figure only applies to EL gauges

I have never find it a problem, and I have not gotten a speeding ticket either since using it.
Also it helps me in night driving. And I got comments from people who simply loved them.

Is the car with the el gauges a tr-ts 4 or 6. If it's a 4 and you want to sell them let me know.....thanks.

Theres two, and they're both V6 TF's. From a technical point of view, looking at the gauges, provided they're the same size as the gauges in the 2nd gen, they should line up properly in a 2nd gen and work like they should. If I end up with a set I'll let you know, your welcome to check them and see if they fit.

Theres a bulb that lights up the dash when the parkers are turned on. Put the power wire coming from the inverter between the connector for the bulb holder and the circuit board for your dash and bobs your aunty.

Dodgy? Maybe. Does it work? You bet your ass it does.

Oh i wouldnt call it dodgey :P
used to do it to power my CCFl tube for the cluster, except i stuck ring terminals on the end and screwed it underneath the screw for that circuit.
