I'm new here guys.....I recently sold my TH manual Sports & bought a blue 380 VRX manual with leather & sunroof. Very nice car but certainly no quicker than the Magna (a bit disappointing!!) New wheels & lowered will be happening next month and already contacted RPW for K & N filter. Regarding the exhaust, can anyone tell me if the 380 VRX has a straight thru rear muffler (like the TJ)? I noticed it has a bit of a note & dont want to waste my money changing the muffler for a new one if its already straight thru. 2 different exhaust shops have told me the piping on them are pretty good, just the rear muffler is restrictive.
Thanks

Have a look at the NZ power thread for some exhaust and air intake info. Knotched is the man to talk to about some exhaust mods as he has done one on his VRX and had some good gains.

Welcome to the 380 section, mate.
Yes, the 380 is definitely one of the most restricted models I've come across. One drive taking it up to 6000rpm in second and you can experience the crippled top end. It comes with an intake designed for a 4 cylinder, about half the size of the TH you had  .
The culprit is definitely the standard muffler. It is of the old tri-flow(?) design where the gas takes two 180 deg turns before exit. It doesn't seem to affect the low or midrange too much but certainly kills the engine's torque past 4500rpm.
I've just replaced mine and results are in the 380 Extractors thread. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info. I've now read the thread about extractors & I think I will just replace the rear muffler with a straight thru, rather than doing the whole thing. The muffler & a K & N will cost less than $400 & will hopefully give me some minor improvement. After I get the wheels/lowered next month I will put up some pictures in case anyones interested. And just for the record, how rare are manual 380's!!! Add to that leather & low km's, there were only 2 I could find in NSW at the time. At one point I was going to have to go interstate to get one where they were also a few grand cheaper.
