View Full Version : TJ Ride Height - NOW - Question for Dave [RPW]...
What is the standard ride height (front/rear) for a stock TJ Exec sedan?
Measurement from either ground or hub centre to top centre of wheel arc would be great if anyone has/knows these figures.
At present my car is sitting 665mm front & back with King Springs (Lows?) (w/ tyres inflated to 39psi) which is approximately 20-25mm lower than the ol man's VR-X!
Thanks.

I measured mine the other day
Front bar, near wheel 195mm (lowest point)
skirt front, near wheel 185mm
skirt rear, near wheel 185mm
Rear bar, near wheel 225mm
Front Wheel Arch 735mm (from centres 410mm)
Rear Wheel Arch 670mm (from centres 365mm)
Tire Clearance from Arch
Front 75mm
Rear 25mm

Are your skirts the lowest point of the vehicle @ 185mm?
That means you could lower your ride roughly a futher 8.5cm (approx 3.5") and still be legal at 100mm above the ground! ...talk about an overlander kit! ;)
My skirts currently sit about 130mm off of the ground at the points closest to the wheels (a coke can doesn't fit under them standing up) and I wanting to take mine down about another 30-40mm all the way round so I can get the front & rear bars to a nice new low height.
Dave,
How low is the TT Magna...from ground to Top of Wheel Arch (Front & Rear).... and how much ground clearance at the front & back of the side skirts?

Unless you have a coke can from the 80's then your can theory can be thrown out the window.
They changed the style and height of a soft drink can back then.. The common one now is around 13cm's...
Huh?
A coke can is 130mm high, my skirts are approximately the same height above the ground as a coke can standing up, but the coke can "just" can't squeeze under there... (shall I post pics?)
hence why I want to drop my car approximately another 30mm to bring it down to the legal 100mm.

Just to re itterate on another post here the law is 100mm clearance and the suspension travel must not be reduced by more than 1/3.

No, seems we all agree that a coke can is 130mm (13cm tall), though i'm still trying to figure out what Bain was getting at...???

What i was trying to explain before was that you measured your ride height by a coke can before and I was just saying that a coke can is no longer an accurate measurement for the legal (100mm) height as the shape of the can is different to when they used to use them as a rudamentry way of checking.

My magna is lowered 60mm on the front and 40mm on the rear.
I have had numerous people hop into it now with me and comment on the handling and ride the fact it is not harsh to drive etc.
Amazing how many people comment on this - I guess its proof you can lower the car and have good ride as well as handling. We use the lovells on our vehicles with great success.
But as comparing to the kings etc the 60mm lovells are not as low as the kings so it comes down to what you want to compromise the most?
Thank's Dave....when I visited RPW late last week I was very surprised to see that my car was sitting a little lower than yours...I honestly thought my car had Kings "low" springs in it when I purchased it (not that i've checked the codes and stuff) but now as we discovered i'm not so sure, maybe they are super lows afterall....perhaps it's time to pull a wheel off and have a good look at the springs!
