what kind of music you listen to and what is ya budget?
if it's mainly hard rock / metal then i'd go a pair of 10's or 12's in a sealed enclosure (10's will sound tighter / punchier but not as loud)
if you listen to rap / hip hop kinda crap then i'd go either a 12 or a 15 on a ported enclosure
all comes down to what you want it to do

Pretty sure car audio Australia has been changed to MEA now (Mobile Electronics Australia)
If you listen to a bit of "everything" Its just easier to go for a sealed enclosure...
you can still get some deep bass notes, but it will still be punchy, and if your DIY'ing the box you have to be spot on with measurements for the box/port etc to get it sounding right, one mistake and the whole tuning aspect is gone.
Personally 2 x 12"s for me

Common myth with regard to music genre and sub size... You'll find that 15" subwoofers can be as tight and punchy as a 10", it all comes down to what you want to buy, what your concerns are over boot space, your budget and so on.
You say you already have a box for 2x10" subwoofers? If so, then buy 2x10" subwoofers, however you might find a better deal in a single 12"... I'm not a big fan of dual subwoofers.

The money you spend of 2 cheaper 10" subs would be better spend on 1 better quality 12" and a decent box. It will be tighter and louder than 2 cheap subs. You can get a custom box made for $200-$300 if you aren't keen on DIY.
With car audio, quality is a key factor, not quantity.
What's your budget? This is probably the most important thing right now.

nah CAA is still there
just checked :D
as for quality over quantity i agree completely
the phrase "you get what you pay for" is truer nowhere than car audio imo
oh and lucifer i agree about genre and sub size too
BUT
to get a 15 sounding good requires a damn good sub / box combo
the smaller subs are easier for a novice

Mmmm good point! I think a single 12 inch subwoofer is a good place to start, something decent for a novice like Pioneer or Kenwood, or dare I say it, Sony (they sound all right when you're not dealing with treble). Slap one of those in, appropriate sized amp, Bob's your proverbial uncle.

CAA redirects to MEA :P
buy 1 quality 12 and make a box, definitely worth the effort

1 quality sub FTW. I have always only ran 1 good sub and with decent power they always go ok.
Current world record is held by someone who ran 1x DD 9918z and he got 180.5db on termilab. Proves its not all about how many subs you have. :D
Or 2 quality 12's, can't go wrong! :}
Double the price however.
