Hey guys.
I just picked up a magna after doing a fair bit of research... and reading these boards as well!
It's 100% stock, manual V6 Magna TE Executive with 160k on the clock which I got from the dealer for $3800.
The dealer had to do a hell of a lot of work to get it road worthy; new tyres, new front bumper, new windscreen, tail lights and universal joints. So glad I didn't have to pay for that!
I'd seen some go for $3k (TF Advance even) but without rwc or rego, and very few with the low kms and manual combination. I think it's generally a fair price... but I got a little rattled when I saw a thread in here with a highly modded TE that the forum was saying you'd only get $3500-$4000 for! (I'd link but I can't find it in the search)
It seems like a nice ride, but compared to my old ****e-box, anything is better!!
I noticed that when I floor it and get wheel skid the steering wheel shakes like all buggery... is this just a product of a front wheel drive car?

...and the ugly dent (but much better than before)

sounds like an alrite deal there, pretty good if its a first car(?)... wat colour is it? good condition?

might need a wheel alignment/balance maybe...? shouldnt shake at all when accelerating hard (this is an auto 3.5L)
If the shaking is a fast chirp-chirp-chirp like the wheels trying to spin - then yeah it's normal but not good for it... it's called axle tramp and it's the number one way to break your diff.

welcome..........when you foot it are you easing on the accel .....is it like a skipping feel......cause if your skidding and shuddering...then you have a bad case of lead food.....skids dont come easy in these cars....well not accidental....lol
front wheel drives suck....

HAHA!
Thanks guys, I thought that might just be the case!
So I guess a set of large wheels and maybe stiffer suspension would fix that....
OR I could be less of a lead foot
Seriously, I do appreciate the warning.
The car is a metallic gun metal black. The interior is in A1 condition... oh except the leather gear stick sock (or whatever they call it), that needs replacing. The panels are good, there are a few tiny dents in the doors that you see in some angles. The rear bumper had a huge dent in it, but I followed the pro-tips on these forums and pushed it out with the help of a little electric heater..
This is actually my second car, my first was a 81 Mazda 626, RWD 2L that I bought for $2k and lasted 8 years before I had to limp it to the wreckers.

if its skipping and skidding after you have traction and your are well under you way in your drive then thats a problem.... :bouncin: .you either have a twin turbo supercharged magna that you have no idea about......:bowrofl: :bouncin:... or something sketchy going on in your drive line....e.g CV joints...trans....
seeing you just bought it... best thing to do.... fork out 120 and get a service....
thats yoursafest bet.....if all else fails......pull you seat right back...so you cant push the pedals as far...lol....:bowrofl:

No, it's only really when I'm taking off and/or flooring it.... I mean, I expected wheel spin, but because I'm not used to FWD the steering wheel shudder was new to me.
Don't worry guys, I'll be good and look after my 'new' car. And I'm going to get that service too. I expect it's been neglected a bit before it was traded in.
I'd been looking through the forums at all the great mods you guys are doing, but fact is my lil TE is never going to rip up the tarmac, so I'm thinking of just getting some nice big wheels and lowering it a little so it's just a bit less family-friendly. I've ripped out the stereo and alarm from my old car and plan to install those too. Fingers crossed it's not much more difficult in the magna. The audio forum will help heaps there. This place rocks ^_^
LOLAMENTS YEAH THAT WAS HELPFUL BINZER :dancin: :bowrofl: :gtfo: :drama: :fruitcake
But Kloppy - don't do it often. It's a replacement gearbox if you break your diff.

what wasnt helpful about it...:)
$3800 sounds pretty good for one of those, it was only a month or so ago I was looking around at manual 3rd gens, not a single TE was under $5.5k with the man trans.
Get some pics up of her, we want to see naturally.
As for the shuddering, thats going to break something eventually as in my books it should be totally smooth, service as suggested is a great idea. Our TR doesn't shudder or anything when you boot it, so its not a FWD thing, although you've probably already gathered that.
Enjoy the new car! Oh and look after her! :D

Sounds like a good buy. Welcome to the club.:)
Lately I have noticed a shuddering from my car when under load...going up hills...and my mechanic is going to replace the drive shafts because he reckons it's more than just the CVs causing that.

Torque steer! You will get used to it and learn to drive around it. :D

Pics have been added, as requested.
It seems a little silly taking glory photos of a stock family sedan... but a 'hey I've just got a new car' thread is not right without 'em!
Plus I still LIKE my 'new' car!
As for options, my car is fairly bare-boned, with only aircon and according to the sticker I have ABS ... but without being silly I'm not sure how to verify that.
