Can this be done in a 96 Altera? doesn't seem to be much behind ther at first glance. thinking of wappin' a decent speaker in there or a dvd monitor.

Just throwing ideas at myself at the minute. can do much in respect to the wheels and exterior due to low budget at the min, so trying to keep things simple n cheap.

Does your car have a passenger airbag?

I have a 99 Altera LS which has dual airbags so if thats the case you cant do it.

If the older ALtera doesnt have a [passgnger air bag then theres no reason you couldnt be even more creative and mount a PS2 in the dash

A center speaker for 5.1 would be most suited to the center console no? Because of it's central location?! Also, why get a 17" it'd be so damned HUGE that no one would be able to use it because it'd be too close. I am a fan of those LCD's in the sun-visor, you can get them touch-screen now so you can run a carpc off them.

IMHO, wheels over silly screen any day. You will appreciate it too because a thief can't just bust your window and unplug it. A 2nd gen owner, can't remember his name but his car SUCKED, mounted 6x9's in the rear doors AS WELL as on the parcel shelf.. he had a 17" there but removed his glovebox too :S

If you HAVE to get a screen, why not a motorized 1DIN unit in the center console? Or like i said, 2 sun-visor ones, or perhaps just a 7"/8" there on some sort of retractable mount so when you leave your car in a dodgey car-park doing your drug runs it doesn't stick out like a hard-on in a cold wind?

I have a 97 altera...no airbags at all...i've got the 2 gloveboxes too so if yours is the same you'll be all right!
