Blimey thats a good price.

Only thing that could justify that is it its got over 250,000k's on the clock.....otherwise the owners must really be desperate to sell.

Found a 2001 TJ Advance for $7300 in NSW with 123,000k's on the clock, so its actually only a reasonable bargain, unless of course its manual, which it ain't.

Advance is basically a well built car. You sud be able to drive it for another 90,000kms without much fuss, only worry will be tranny!

Hmmm, by the sounds of it you're not really that much into cars (YET).

So I would suggest you get the RAA to check out the car for you, this can be done interstate if needed, something like $100 to have a guy go out and check it out. That is, if you're serious about getting this car.

IMO it looks like a really good deal, it may have only done 160,000kms but you have to remember it's only 5 years old, so it looks like it's done its fair share of driving. Just make sure it's checked out with a fine tooth comb before purchase.

I find it hard to say its cheap considering my 2000 Verada was only $7500 with 112k on the clock.

160k is a lot of kms in 5 yrs, 32k a year and the average is 16-20k I believe. Are they the first owners, because it may have been a fleet car prior to their ownership. A sales rep flogged it for 3 years, put on 140k then the old couple bought it and only put on 20k in the last two years.

Definitely get someone experienced to take a look at it first. I bought mine 2 weeks ago and had a older cousin who works at a dealership come with me and take a good look before I handed over the cash.

That was before i knew it had 160k kms, which is quite alot for a 5 year old car. Still a good buy IMO.

I have a mate who's 16, he's owned a few cars already even without his license (he now has it). He's even done a transplant on a dato 1200 (SR20DET). He knows a lot about cars.

What are you trying to say? You have to be old to know about cars?

ot necessarily. Getting your licence is a big part in it.
unless it runs in the family(mechanic), Comes to you naturally, or you've taken early interest (without a licence). Obviously then you would know what your doing.
i know as soon as i turned 18 i didnt know zip about Modern engines. COMPUTERS and Engines are plain confusing

and from experience....a majority of people on AMC that know what their talking about
range in early to late 20's..........if ya get me.....not an insult...

I have an 03 Advance myself - had 115k on the clock when I bought it last year - it was an ex company car. My opinion is that companies buy base models for sales reps, and "cushy" models for managers and so forth, which in my opinion means the cars are probably better looked after. But check the books anyway. Also keep in mind you'll be due for a timing belt replacement at 180k, which is the most expensive of the services to get done, if you get someone else to do it, that is.

Other questions:
Is it a tiptronic transmission?
Climate control, or standard aircon?
Power antenna?
Alloys, or standard rims?
Towbar? If it does then maybe the engine has been working hard for a reasonable portion of those kms...
