replace lifters or clean them
check wear in the rockers them selves
oil feed running ok and pressure

oil may be too thin when hot . change to a different oil

15W40 is too thick oil for magna. Factory fill is 5W30. Personally I wouldn't go above 10W40.
I was using Motul 4100 Turbolight 10W40 for about three years, occasionally I woul have noisy lifter or two during cold mornings for about two minutes.
Before this winter changed to BP Visco 5000 5W40 and so far didn't have any issues with lifters. There is over 208,000 km on the odometer.

Mag05- you can try Nulon Engine Treatment as the last assort to play with the lifter noise.

A relavant question to all members-

It looks like lifter noise (hot/cold) is one of the common problems with Magna 3.5lt engine and I believe many owners have given up and decided to live with the lifter noise.

At what stage should one be really concerned about the noise and should look forward to changing/taking care of the noise problem?

At this moment, I can hear some slight noise probably coming from the lifters when hot only with bonnet open (can't hear anything from inside the car or with bonnet closed). How big sud be the noise before one sud take the problem seriously?

Thanks in advance.

are the tops of the valves hammered or smooth
I would be looking at the cam caps bearings and clearences and valve springs sticky valves and cam condition for groves next

Appreciate all your help I'm going to change oil to 10/30 and try that, the tops of the valves and springs acording to local dealership is fine they tell me this is a common problem and this one is as good as it gets (pretty slack if this was your first Mitsubishi) but as I had a 3Ltr wagon with over 300,000 Klms on the clock and still very quiet I would like this to be a pleasant car too!
