View Full Version : What have i done!!??
Ok today i bought interior neons... i pulled down the cover underneath the steering wheel to see if there was anything that i could use as a power cable for the neon, i had a look around a found nothing suitable i did not touch/remove ANY cables/wires
as i couldn't find anything i get frustrated and started to put the cover back.
i put the key in the ignition, turned it and the car wouldn't start... the console lit up, the head unit turned on but the thing that tells you how many kms you have left and how much fuel you've used DIDN'T light up and neither did any of the interior lights, also, my central locking doesn't work.
I called the RACV guy, he came past and had a look around, after asking me a 1000 times if had pulled any cables out he came to the conclusion that i might have blown a fuse.
He used his little screwdriver thing that lights up to check the fuses and they were ALL working, even the one that controls the interior lighting. He didn't know what it was and said there might be something wrong with the "body control unit" or something along those lines.
Somehow, he made the car start fine, but like i said, no interior lights. Headlights and so on work fine.
Does anyone know what it might be or have had this happen to you in the past?
thanks guys!

There are 2 fuse boxes, one in the engine bay, and another inside near the accelerator. Did he check both?

i donno to tell ya the truth, the racv man says that the immobiliser doesn't work... My guess is that I DID dislodge a wire, but i seriously have no idea which one as i tripple check everything
are there any members here who live in melbourne who happen to be auto electricians (or similar) that could take a look at it for me?

That'll learn ya for ricing up your car :P

If the cars now running but the lights not working try replacing the globes.
But be careful.
One of the guys over here replaced his globe and somehow fried an ecu fuse??? god knows how
Ok it's sorted!
I went to an auto electrician who looked at all the fuses again and told me that the interior light fuse was blown (which the RACV guy told me was alright)
All it took was a $5 replacement and i was up and running again.
Just so you guys know... for some reason the interior light fuse controls:
a) interior light (duh)
b) the top little console thing that displays how many km's you've done, and how much of your tank is left etc etc
c) central locking
d) immobilizer
I dont understand why it controls all this, but yeah.
BTW, the neons are in!

I seem to have a similar problem. I have just purchased a Mitsubishi TJ Ralliart Magna SA. Everything seems to function alright EXCEPT the interior light. The globe looks good and the fuse looks fine and no I haven't been under the dash .... yet.
On a seperate note does anyone know what the two extra fuses are for on the TJ Ralliart Magna? On the inside, under the bonet release? It is not on the drawing in the owner's manual. When you are looking at 9-3 in the owner's manual they are on the left in their own little plastic thingy, one above the other, vertical, they look stock. They look similar to fuse number 1 and 2 only further to the left outside the drawing and they are mini-blade fuses. Actually only the bottom one has a fuse in it the other is empty. But since they are not in the owner's manual I do not know what size fuse to try in it.

Could they be spare fuses :D
This is why I loved my '79 SE Sigma. It had a little knob under the interior fuse box which you moved along to test each fuse in turn. If it worked, the light lit up. If not, you knew which one without taking the cover off.
I guess fuses don't blow enough to make this sort of thing worthwhile anymore.

I have double checked and they aren't spare fuses, the spares are on the bottom and are horizontal. Also the spares are shown in the owner's manual, these two extras are not.
