Hey guys found this forum last night whilst searching for info on my Magna. The folks gave me their TP 1990 Magna so we had a second car and I had to get it ready for registration in 2 days. Ive been told the bearings need to be replaced in the left rear. I have taken it apart and bought a kit from repco. Came with 2 bearings both with housing. Anyway now the question. I removed just about everything but the housings for the bearings dont seem to want to come out. Need some tips on getting these out, so I need a good way the get rid of the gunk holding it in. Secondly I need to get hold of sun visors for the car as well. I have rung one of the wreckers in Canberra and tried to call Big M which I saw on these pages but their phone is disconnected and I dont know if they exist. Your help would be much appreciated.

you need a press for the front hub bearings -- or cold chisel/ heat and a big mallet

are you trying to remove the rear bearings and its cone ?
remove the cone by tapping through the hub
use a screwdriver and hammer and go through each side and hit on the edge of the cone in the hub then turn it a/4 hit again till the bearing cone comes out
wash the bearings out with petrol and repack the bearing

thats strange or maybe there the originals cos mine were really easy to remove/replace.
Make sure you pack with good quality high temp bearing/hudrulic grease. It's the kind of area where you don't want to be cheap (well buying cheap grease anyway.
And yea as buffy said use a screwdriver and hammer. But if it was me id use a wodden dowel and a rubber malet (sp?) to make sure you don't scratch damage where the bearing sits.
so in sumarry it's probably like taking an old car apart where you have to shock (a tap,or hard persuation) the nut/bolt or fitting to get it to free it self. maybe it's a got a little surface rust which is stopping it.
Oh and welcome to AMC. don't feed the animals cos they bite.
And any more questions just ask and im sure you'll get the info in the end:D

Thanks guys great help. Everything is fine now. dowel was a great idea just needed a little bit more grunt. All I need to do now is find the sun visors. Did a dodgey job of moving the left hand one across to look like its there and hopefully one visor on the drivers side is enough
