View Full Version : Boot release in Driver's door?

Looking at my Owner's Manual, the 3rd gens came out with either a Boot Release in the glovebox (like mine) or mounted in the Driver's door (better place for it IMO).

Does anyone here have the Boot Release button in the door?
If so, what year/model do you own?
...and is it only on the Driver's side or in the Passenger's door as well?

Also, anyone have the Passenger side sunvisor with the mirror with a cover/lid instead of just a small mirror?

yeah I thought it may be the Verada to get the door Boot Release.
May take a look around the wreckers one day.
Thanks.

As for the vanity mirror.
That's why I was interested in one of those. Wife would like it.

I just use my remote.

Don't think I've ever used the glovebox button.

you can get the bottom piece for the door trim, i had it when i brought my leather interior it was early verada, just replacment plastic part on bottom of doortrim near the pocket...

i swapped my part on to it though as i cbf playing about with wires to set it up... i think it was from 1997 xi verada

the boot release is stupid in the glove box! and when keys are in the ign and car operating the button on the remote is disabled.. again stupid!

Hey guys

If you bought your car new you woulda gotten 3 keys, 2 black one grey

You will find the boot release in the glove box is there because the grey key is the valet key and doesnt open the glove box OR the boot.

There fore they put the release in the glove box, so you cant open the boot or glove box with the grey key, ensuring those lil theiving valets cant steal your valuables.

I think its a logical idea and alot of other manufacturers do it too.

KH Xi has the boot release in the door.

Yes fantastic you might say, until you pop the boot at the petrol station trying to push the button for the fuel flap.

But definitely is better than the glovebox. Whoever came up with that idea should be shot. It has to be one of the crappiest automotive designs this side of square wheels

I wonder why the Ei Veradas had it in the glove box and the Xi Veradas had it in the driver's door? Most likely due to using different spec door plastic trim/moulding in the Xi Veradas?

Wtf??? I have a KE Ei 97 and the release is under the seat (it works using a cable I think) not in the 'glovebox' or in the side door. Can someone please put up a pic of it in the glovebox??? I can't believe my ears... the boot release in the glovebox??? WTF? WWWHHHYYY?????

As mentioned above, i think it is to stop access to boot if glove box is locked, so you can lock valuables up etc.

Holdens have a similar system, if you really wanted to move it you would just need to reroute the switch.

Yeah its just an electrical switch as opposed to an actual cable.

I'm not sure how secure it is since you could access the boot through the ski port.
