This looks great. Cool that it was actually the same colour as the rest of your car - means it still looks Ok while you wait to paint the rest.

Hmm, I really want to get one of these... How did you get yours?

Spraycans are your friend :D Go to supercheap and pick up about 4 of the tiny cans (or 2 of the larger ones) of paint that matches the front bumper, lightly sand the areas you want to paint, get rid of the dust, hit it with 3 even coats of paint, waiting for each layer to dry before the next obviously, then I put two coats of clear on.

Wait a day and do a light cut and polish :) Looks great for me, except **** in certain lighting hahahahhahhaha :bowrofl:

Looks good.

Thanks for posting the comparison shot, you can see that if you know what you are doing and have some time free, you could possibly modify a standard bar to have a similar look; it's mainly about extending the "cutout" bit (for want of a better description), gives it a meaner / more modern look. Might contemplate doing this for my driving lights that I still haven't installed, actually incorporate them into the bumper rather than just putting them in the existing cutout...

considering i can only see the front of the car, id say the front looks hot, no idea what the rest look like lol

but if you get quad tips, i will have to kill you :P

Also perry with your indicators, its just my thought that because you've taped them off to spray its just too sharp, like its thick black paint then BAM indicator

I would try (if you have a spare indicator) to just spray the edges with the can, no masking tape, so it sort of looks like you've done the indicators in paint. that way the paint should just nicely blend in with the indicator giving no sharp outlines

After nudging a brick wall yesterday I am inclined to forget about painting the bumpers. Just get scraped and chipped in no time. Whereas unpainted I can't tell exactly where I hit it!

You car looks fantastic as it is and I am seriously jealous.

Better yet mask with a thick roll of Blu-tack. Will prevent a sharp edge but still control the line of the paint.

Yeah, you'll need a plastic primer for your unpainted side mouldings and rear bumper bar. You'll want new chrome stripping too, peel your old stuff off and you'll be set :)

Can save a lot of stuffing around if you can find some coloured side strips at a wrecker, even if it's not your colour it will greatly reduce the amount of prep work you need to do. Shouldn't cost more than $20, and will save hours of work.

ill just paint the ones that are on there, there none at the wreckers where i live

Looks sick perry, heaps better than the stock one.

For comparison sake I did a really quick respray of it to make it all body colour, I know its rough (and I totally screwed the drivers side up), but it gives an idea:

it'll take a few days to get it right but sand back the clear on ALL surfaces you intend to paint
mask off about 100mm above where you want to paint and spray bumper and sides in long even flowing coats
if using cans then spend about an extra $10 and buy one of those trigger gizmos for pressure packs
will need approx 6 cans to do a decent job and then about another 4 of clear
next rub it back with 2400 wet/ dry
final cut polish and sit back grab beer and admire your job
g/l

I'm contemplating getting a diamante bar and two-tone my car. I don't think it'd look as good as yours with the red and grey though

congrats on the excellent buy!

Two tone on your TR would look almost like 1 colour lol You'd have to respray the top to make it a worthwhile two tone.

Well before the poll, starts, i'll have my 2cents. I reckon the 2 tone looks better. Like leave the grill grey and the bumper, add's class. Sorta says "hey look, i have a bit of money, to do something a little diff". Also I like how the front bumper stands out.
- Cheers, Brad

Should all be silver...

lol... yeah, i reckon u follow the chrome all the way round. Which probably will be more expensive to do then just spray the front burgundy. But it depends on ur budget really. Both would look really good. So u can swing both ways on this one, it's upto u. If I had the money, then i'd do the chrome, round the outside, all the way.
