Guys

Got my new rims yesterday....they look a lot better in the flesh. And yes, I'm fully aware it needs to be lowered - hopefully next month after I level out my driveway. If anyone is interested in the 17" VRX rims, check out for sale items or PM.

Thanks

Thanks. I prefer the colour of yours!!! The blue is a nightmare to keep clean, it shows up every speck of dust.

Looks the goods. Talk to Type40 about the lowering. He has some recent experience on the subject lol.

wow, looks great!

Is there any kits for the 380s? They look so naked when you put big rims on them.

Looks great.

On lowering; maybe Type40 or yourself could start a "lowering" thread for the rest of us to avoid the traps and get an idea of which way to go?

Thanks for the kind words guys. Just for the record, they are 18" rims but I went with 235/45 (rather than 40's) just to give a slightly smoother ride, a bit more protection against buckles & keeps the rolling diameter within 1mm of standard. I've already PM'd Type 40 about lowering & spoken to a suspension mob however I only want to go 30mm, inch & a half tops as the car is driven by my wife with our 2 young boys in it most of the time. I've been quoted $495 for Kings including w/alignment. No plans for a kit, K & N and straight thru muffler also in the next few weeks.

Same. Have a 2yo boy and do not want a harder ride under any circumstances. 30mm is tops for me.

I think a lot of Magnas are lowered for looks but also to improve handling. In the 380's case I think the handling is fine (sports suspension) and I don't want the dynamics changed by going ultra low.

Just not sure whether to go compressed std springs or Kings/Lovells/whatever because from others, the aftermarket springs are harder.

I wouldn't recommend compressed springs as i have punched the bumpstops pretty hard with mine. But only the front mind you, the back seems ok. You have to remember that the spring rate isnt increased when they are compressed, only the ride height is dropped.

Also i would only go 30mm as the ride does become a lot firmer with the Kings S/L and the 380 VRX is pretty taut in the ride department anyway. I agree with Knotched when he says the handling is bloody great in standard form and i did ruin it somewhat by going with the S/L springs. But, if you are for looks and aren't afraid of a firm ride then go for the S/L springs but to keep some integrity with the ride handling compromise only go 30mm at the most.

Also... Refer to my sig for where not to go!

I didn't even know you could compress the factory springs. The TH I recently sold I had lowered an inch & a half front but left the rear the factory 10mm sports & that certainly wasnt a hard ride. The suspension guy said 1.5" makes it about 20% firmer ride. I'm doing it strictly for looks, it already handles well & I dont drive fast enough around bends for it to be an issue.

In the 380 ?

How far have you lowered it since replacing the Kings?

If it's only 30mm for a 380, shouldn't we be able to get away with compressed?

& that certainly wasnt a hard ride

But that was a Magna which is soft compared to the 380 VRX.

Can u let us know how you go with your replacement springs?

I will chat to the suspension shop tommorrow about compressing my springs & let you know what he says....all going well, I may be lowering next Friday.

On a different note, I'm more concerned with a straight thru muffler and K & N because the 380 is definetely slower than the TH....not happy!!!

I have compressed the fronts 35mm and the back 25mm. So i don't recommend compressing them at all. They will be too soft in compression for the amount lowered.

Sorry bout that "In the 380 ?" dorkish moment, just very surprised.

You will have to go back to Kings, I assume. The 20% increase in stiffness is a small price I suppose.

Spoke to suspension guy...He said they usually only compress/re-set if you want an unusual depth however as I only want 30mm, they have 30mm lowered springs in stock so I should just go with them. The price is the same either way & the ride wouldnt necessarily be any softer re-setting the originals...looks like I will be getting new ones!!
