Hey everyone,

Been browsing the AMC forums for a while now since I picked up a Magna TH v6si last year. However recently since late June (after I had my last service), I have noticed a squeaking noise from the rear of the car, however until recently (past week), the noise is only there when the car is either coasting or accelerating. Its not a constant squeak and seems to match the rotation of the wheels.

In the last week, the squeak (however more subdued) has also started to occur when braking also, it used to actually get rid of the squeaking. Its really more of an annoyance because the car performance hasn't degraded as the noise has slowly gotten worse.

I had it checked out by mechanic back in July a couple of weeks after the service and he blamed the tires since they were 3/4 worn. I just got them replaced a couple of weeks ago, however, initially the squeaks where gone, however, 5 minutes later they slowly came back to same as before.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be? I'm a noob when it comes to the actual mechanics of cars lol

Cheers!

Mike.

My mums TJ wagon did this.
It was the handbreak rubbing. Got it serviced 3 times for the same thing before they finally gave up and fitted the revised hadbreak shoes and it was fine after that

The handbrake sounds like it because that also has been acting up, I just didn't join the dots, but I will also get the wheel bearings checked. Thanks for your help! I will let you know how it all goes.

I had the exact same problem in my Verada which was finally rectified earlier this week. In my case the hand brake shoes would stay engaged even after releasing the hand brake lever completely, resulting in dragging of the brakes.
