Hey all,

I know there have been previous threads about my issues with transmission etc, but I'm about to book it into the transmission guy who is very dodgy and I've had a very bad experience with him, but its the only one near by.

The problem is, Start the car, go for a bit of drive let everything get hot, apply brakes at stop sign and it rumbles (600rpm) and it fluctuates. Half the time it stalls half the time it doesn't. Ok so most of you will say idle speed control.

But it gets worse, say when i get home reverse the car back, when it put it into reverse and accelerates it sits there for 1-4seconds and then bang, from this i learnt not to accelerate when reversing and leave the car until its in gear. I have not been driving the car recently because of these issues.

Also something else which has now disapeared was a small whining sound when accelerating. From a complete stop.

But I last time I got ripped off buy this transmission dealer and want to get a rough idea of the problem first, the last time he fixed the car the tranny blew up 1 week later. And put the blame on me.

Its a Magna TH 99 and was just serviced for 90000

The delay between gear selection and actual engagement might point to a valve body problem, or an oil pump problem.

When you select a gear in an automatic, certain solenoids in the transaxle's valve body open and close, to create a certain path for ATF to flow through. The path that the fluid takes will lock and unlock various parts of the planetary ge****ts, to make a drive ratio.

I remember you mentioning in a previous thread that your ATF was extremely dirty. This might've caused the valve body passages to become restricted/completely blocked, hindering the flow of ATF enough to make the gear engagement slow. The dirty fluid may have also clogged the valve body solenoids.

The other thing I think it may be is a problem with your transaxle's oil pump, which is inhibiting the fluid pressure sufficiently to cause clunks and thumps through lack of lubrication.

As for the idle fluctuations, how large is the fluctuation? Like 1000rpm-600rpm-1000rpm? Or lower/higher? I think it may be a vacuum problem somewhere along the intake tract.

With regards to the mechanic, if he even bothered to service the transaxle the first time, then blame you for it's malfunction, give him a miss.

Hey, thanks for info.

Its like 1000rpm when stopping, then 400, 600, 400, 200, 400, stall, something like this. Also got brake shudder once when I was breaking due to this flucuations.

No where else to go around here, in regards to how dodgy he actually is his son is a witness to the actions of me doing "burnouts" during that week. I would admit to doing burnouts, but thats not the case, in no way did the wheels lose traction because after the first transmission blew I learnt my lesson :bowrofl:.

Without a 2HR bus ride or so there is no where else really to go

I'm seriously leaning towards an intake leak. Because the brake booster is plumbed into the intake plenum, any change in vacuum will change pedal feel. Have a look along the intake, front to back, make sure everything is done up, there are no tears, holes, missing hoses, etc.

Why would this create a stumble in gear change e.g. I goto take off and sometimes it takes 3 seconds or so and then BANG car clicks into gear and i shoot off.
