Hey guys,
there will be a new member to my car audio family very soon a pair of focal 270v3,
11" = mid bass
5" = mid
1" tweeter

150Wrms

sweeeeeet
the dilemma i have is that i need a good two channel amp to run these puppies
does anyone know of anything 150Wrms or more that cost approx $500, this will be there last thing i buy in car audio so i really dont wanna go too overboard.
anyhelp would be much appreciated guys
cheers

or if anyone has a spare alpine mrv-1507 that they wanna get rid off ill be glad to take it off their hands
:D

mids going in door pods??

Sounds very interesting.

I would go mids in door pods or foot well (boxed pointing up at windscreen) with midrange and tweet in the kicks, or midrange in the kicks and tweet on the dash if ur that way inclined

With speakers that good i'd factor in at least $700 for a decent amp

Soundstream
Focal
Audison
trutech
Alpine (oldschool)
etc

agree 100% with timmeh on this one

if your gonna spend that much on speakers definately spend the right money on an amp and wiring

even an eclipse amp would be another i would put into the 'good amps' pile

something like this?

Mmm even though I know they eclipse amps I'd be reluctant to use a clas D, go class A/B.

Anyway I suggest you look second hand if you dont want to fork out the coin for a new one

im not dissagreeing with you tim, but why do you say that?

Generally with amplifier topologies

Class D = good for subs - Very efficient and high power output, but cannot handle high frequencies/ detail as well. Most Monoblocks are Class D.

Class A/B good for full range speakers not as efficient for subs though.

Technology is getting better though, so not a blanket rule at all (im just oldschool)

oh ok, so the way that the digital amps work they somehow filter the highest frequencies?

but with a sub that doesnt matter so much because it only plays low frequencies?

not really filter, it slightly distorts them.

I like analogies; imagine this... You have a huge body builder and a scrawny little kid. They are both digging a hole.

Scenario 1 - Wheelbarrow (bass)
Bodybuilder (class D) can move massive amounts at a time. easily
Scrawny guy (class a/b)struggles to do this as he doesnt have the strength to lift the wheel barrow

Scenario 2 - Spoon (high frequencies)
Bodybuilder (class D) is so buff but he can't move his arms as fast, he struggles
Scrawny guy (Class a/b) is light and quick and can shovel his little spoon much quicker.

BTW - TFmitsi- your avatar is a bit raunchy isnt it?

very nice! i have the 130V2 in my car, which is the same mid and tweeter, very clean crisp sound, but definitely needs some thump up front, so your setup would be perfect!

as for amp, i'd check out the Focal FP 2.150 $749

Nominal power measured at 13.8V continuously @ 4 ohm

Nominal power measured at 13.8V continuously @ 2 ohm
2x200W RMS

Power in bridged mode measured at 13.8V continuously @ 4 ohm
1x400W RMS

* 2 balanced power supplies
* 2 x 150 watts RMS
* class AB amplifer
* 2 balanced power supplies

How many 2 balanced power supplies does it have??

and his avatar is beyond raunchy, it's a naked chick.. who is loose!

Oh and I think Asylum has the amp choice spot on with what I'd get. Plus it's got

* 2 balanced power supplies
* 2 x 150 watts RMS
* class AB amplifer
* 2 balanced power supplies
* 2 balanced power supplies
* 2 balanced power supplies
* 2 balanced power supplies
* 2 balanced power supplies
Did I mention it had 2 balanced power supplies??

:shock:

yeah the mid-b i was gonna make a door pod, i was thinking about putting the mid-r and tweeter on the door as well????.....what do yas reckon? no good?

also my doors are already deadened, anything else i can do to make speakers sound better, i want these to sound perfect.

All the amps in my car are the very old alpine amps, thats why i was looking for another one, ive had them for years with not one problem, but if i cant source one i will obviously have to buy new.

i really didnt wanna spend 700bux on an amp, thats why i was hoping to source out an alpine mrv-1507, which is a A-B class also this has a parametric eq built in which, i thought would help with fine tuning.

wiring i dont really have to worry about, its not the best(streetwires zn3 - silverplated wiring) but it'll do.

i love focal speakers, they sound so awsome, so am i to understand with this set of speakers your pretty much putting in 11' woofers up front?

yea with such good quailty speakers i wouldn't cut corners on powering them

Focals are usually pretty bright so i would not mount them up high, clustered in the pods (not at the top of the door) woudl be fine, otherwise midbass in pods and tweet and midrange in the kicks (make seperate pods again)

Audio System F2-500 would so the job as well. They are about $715 and are rated at 2x 230WRMS. I would look at the Zapco Ref 750.2 as well. Marty has an ex demo one for $900. :D The Focal list above should also do a great job, as valaxy66 said, don't cut corners and you wont get disappointed.
