Hey fellas.

Well my TF manual has always had a little difficulty in taking off but its been manageable. Thats until a week ago a had a fight with the GF and decided to take it out on the car. A few 6000rpm gear changes and putting the car sideways once or twice has left me in a bit of a pickle. Im in good with the GF but my car is now hard as hell to drive. Basically I think the clutch is rooted or the pressure plate or sumthing but the only time it acts nice is when its close to 3000rpm. Which a problem when the car stops.

Anywho unless you have a cheap and easy solution to that problems heres my query. My mate has a nicely done up VS commodore that he might be selling soon. It hasn't got much done but Ive seen and helped put this car together and I know how good a condition it is. On the other hand I still love magnas and seeing though my one is stuffed Ive been on the look out for another and have decided that a Verada would be fair nice.

SO! I could get my mates VS for about $5000-6000 so thats my price range for a verada
too. What do you guys reckon?

i think, get your verada checked out, there might not be much wrong with it, why did you do it sunny, its your pride and joy, your poor car.thats my 2 cents anyways.

LoL yea I know I should have treated it badly but I needed to take the anger out somewhere. Plus it was sorta already broken anyhow. Also I don't own a verada, I have a 97 TF exec manual. It used to go great and I used to take great care of it, but something broke a long time ago and I didn't have the cash to fix it. its just gotten worse and worse to the point where I think getting a new car would be better.

if you have to ask that if you should get a 6cyl commo with gay bonnet bulge over a luxurious verada which is also much safer and more relaible

just look at the interiors! which would you rather spend hours sitting in!

2nd Gen magnas interiors are even much better than all holdens till the VT

commo = yuk!

Yea but verada is about as quick as a rock rolling uphill. The question comes down to speed (commo) vs comfort (verada). Which is what im kinda hung up on. I love to cruise around and for that Im all for comfort. But at the same time Iam still a young fella and thus do some what enjoy the go-fast cars.

Commie looks nice (lose the bonnet scoop/buldge/whatever it is) and sounds nice as well since you helped your mate do must of the work

can you please tell me how the hell you managed to get a FRONT wheel drive SIDEWAYs...

Mangnas have a Turning circle of a small house

ive been taking plenty of trips out to the ABANDONED road were it has a big ashfalt flat and ive been hookin in and i just cant seem to get sideways (to improve driving and handleing skills)

if you're even thinking about a commo don't drop below either a loaded berlina or a calais if you can
the interiors are very poorly put together and the executives are just plain shockers
look around for either a late 2nd or early 3rd gen verada cos i reckon for 5-6K you should get something decent

hookin wont do **** unless it's really wet. You need to do a scandanavian flick, where you drive and turn one way, then floor it and turn the other way, or just use the hand brake.
Your car wont last long if you keep doing it.

ahh i see. no i dont do it often. its usually just a firm drive and a few quick corners.
ive tryed it with CONOLA OIL lol
my freinds VN has 2 jets which sprays a stream of "conola cooking oil" onto the rear wheels lol BEST MOD ever

and no my handbrake doesnt work. Never has. and i dont know why

No offense but that commy looks ****......

Get a rada for sure, and what are you talking about as slow as a rock up hill? Get a 3.5L third gen and it'll be far from a rock on wheels....it'll be rockin! :P

So you just avoid parking on slants then?

both your guesses are as good as mine. I DONT HAVE A CLUE. its just another funtastic feature of my car.
ever since i bought it. I HAVE NEVER HAD A HANDBRAKE. and yes, no parking on hills for me. i park my front wheels in a pot hole in my DIRT CARPORT LOL

AHHHHHHH Dear, gotta love being a brainless teenager

A good 3.5l verada would be quicker than most VS bombadores, not to mention the far higher build quality of the mitsubishi.

I usually get some speed up and go for an understeer. Most FWDer's do that pretty easy. Just as it oversteers let off the accelerator or brake a bit, then turn a bit more, rear end should come out pretty decently. Theres no skill after that as it goes pretty outta control if you go too quick but some times you can bring it back in and feel good about yourself lol. But yea its not great for your car, ruins several things at once but hey you get a magna sideways.

The cheap method is to just pull the handbrake

There's an old saying to never buy from a friend or relative.;)

I'd go the Verada, but that commodore does have nice clear guard repeaters.:D

i wouldnt bother with the commo unless it was a 5L

I wouldn't bother with the 5L unless it was HSV enhanced. The 5L has 20kw and a bunch of Nm more torque but the car weighs 200kg more. This results in a car that does 0-100 in a very V6-ish 8 seconds. (Im talking un-modded please refrain from "nah my mates commo" comments).

stock VS SS man = 0-100 in 7.4
VN was quicker cos lighter but still in the 7's
it's the potential the 5L has that makes em attractive
that and they sound fantastic :D
but i'm biased

for the record the SV enhanced 5L only had 180kw in VN-VP and 185kw in VR-VS

cpl of HSV's had 200 from the 5L though

LoL. Where did you get 7.4sec? not objecting it just I get most my numbers from redbook and sometimes they differ from alot of other sources. Yea I know they have awesome potential but right now I just need a car that runs but also feels or looks good.

And f**kin oath they do sound good. Especially this guy

Do you knwo what you would have to do to get that sound outta a 5L?

and whats a 3.5L stock manual magna run

HAHAHA faster and im not even talking ralliart here

but seriously dude verada

sure the commos can go well, but a coke can with a boat motor easily goes fast, but had it ben a well built solid car... different story

also 4spd auto commos give the illusion of quick acceleration due to having a short 1st gear ratio... a falcon of the same vintage eg vs com versus ef ford would need a 4.11 diff ratio to = the same gearing as the commo's 1st gear ratio, and he basic models both run the same diff ratios...

but i still like commos but so so so so so so so so dated, my 20yo mercedes looks more moderen inside

I'd prefer a Verada, but that Commodore looks pretty good and will be better for burnouts and general tomfoolery. Also, a P plate always looks at home shoved under the rear number plate of a 1990s Commodore...

Yea I had a mate whos statesman did that. Dunno if you've ever seen or heard of the GRAMPS VR-VS statesman. But yea once back when I did pizza deliveries, I was at a customer door and he was driving by, he saw me and revved the engine and the customer's Pajero started wailing.

I dunno what he had done but I do know he had a similar deal with it cut off at the diff. That was an improvement on his old car a VL 5L which was cut off at the gearbox.

pfft my magna does that.... but then again supercharged on a 3" exhaust, and sounds like nothing you've ever heard fom a magna before.... very very deep and not ricey.... but 260-280kw isnt rice

ohh and btw it's tested under the legal limit :P but when you open it up its loud, but only under load... the way it should be

the good old 5L commos sound killer though, much better than the ls1 esp when worked a lil bit.... but im comparing stock to stock here... i'd almost buy a VQ stato cos i like the look and the sound if nothing else...

Can't say I like the pre WH statesmans. they're nice to sit in but not a fan of the exterior.

Decided that if my mate decides to sell im gunna get the VS Commo. I don't like the engine, compared to the magna donk its old, low tech and thirsty. However I do know the car well as I have helped pull it apart from time to time and my mate has always taken care of it. Offered him $5000 plus what ever I get from selling my TF so could be anything from $5001 or if lucky $6000. If he doesn't decided to sell it soon enough for me ie Ive been forbidden from driving the magna again and really need a car to get to work and pick up the GF, Iwill probley just find a TE auto, they seem to be going fair cheap these days.
