as the title states i'm looking to get the cleanest sound from the actual files etc

so what is better

cd audio, cd mp3, ipod aux to aux connection, ipod usb connection.

they are the only ones i can think of that the moment

i'm currently using ipod aux to aux connection.

my sound system equipment includes: focal v2 165 splits up front, pioneer 6 by 9's(usually turned off), calrion 12' driver, amps include: alpine v-power 4ch for the speakrs and cadience 2ch bridge for the woofer

not that you would be able to hear the diff between 320kbps MP3 and a "bought" CD but they are best for SQ
would require the absolute best of equipment to actually make a difference

Umm CD audio. (CDA/WAV)

CD mp3

ipod to aux in (hardwired through line out at the base of the ipod)
ipod to aux in via amped headphone out)

ipod to fm transmitter hardwired through aerial

Ipod to fm transmitter (wireless)

You can hear the difference on most reasonable equipment.

Out of what you have listed CD Audio will always have the best quality (unless you like 40-50mb mp3 files).

Ignoring CD Audio though, mp3 cd and ipod would be on par file quality wise, because both use the same files, it's the delivery of the mp3s that will affect any difference in quality. I would assume the USB connection for the ipod would be better than the AUX connection (assuming we're talking about the headphone jack), mp3 cd audio I would assume would be better than the ipod as it's feeding directly into the HU rather than an input (where you might lose a little quality from the cable used, difference is probably very neglibable).

I listen to alot of techno and bought cds wtfpwn full rips in the high end of frequencies. Sure the difference isn't much @ 320, but still noticeable. Most full rips are 128 or 196.

Good vinyl would have the best quality, with the right gear.

of the typical modes of audio transport in a car, genuine CD rip is certainly the best.

no matter how big you make an mp3 file, fact is that MP3 is a compressed format, it isnt lossless, this is mainly noticable in quiet spots in recordings, MP3 encoding tends to cut it out entirely and result in out of place silences.

that said, i listen to mp3 day in day out on my 'sq' system and usually dont have a problem with it.. certainly do like real cd's better though :D

Isn't Ogg Vorbis the shiznit these days?

If you can tell the difference between a 192kbps to a 320, you're not playing it loud enough. Ear damage ftw. lollerblades.

Vinyl may record sound better, frequencies our ears can't hear that affect those we do hear in some way, however the pops and crackles, built up residue, residue from the printing all effect the music reproduction making it not as good as a CD.

The Aux line out on the Ipod is usually VERY good, but of course this makes no difference if the sound rips are crap.

Really it's up to you, everyones ears are different and all hear sound differently so go with your ears and not with the latest "fad".

(With that said, stay away from FM transmitters, to much interference)
