Well my KJ is off the road for a while and I've stripped down the front end. I was pretty bored this morning so decided to clear out the indicators in my one piece para's. Took some pics while I was doing it to give others on here an idea how it's done.
First up, took off the 5 metal clips holding the clear lense on then slowly went around the seal with a heat gun to soften the glue. Starting from the opposite side of the indicator, I carefully pulled the clear lense off cutting the heated glue with a sharp blade as I went along.
Here is the guts off it...

I then removed this screw holding in the reflector...

Then this screw holding in the amber surround...

Then put the reflector back in...

Then heated up the glue again with the heat gun, carefully put the clear lense back on along with the five metal clips and here is the result...

Pretty easy mod. Took about 10 mins each headlight. Just had to replace the indicator bulb with a clear one that flashes amber. Care must be taken removing the clear lense as the black plastic gets pretty soft and can deform quite easily.
If you have any questions regarding this mod, feel free to ask.
If you don't like the mod, I don't care. Tell your mum or dad instead.

Yeah was gonna use the oven but took Rouge Streak's advice from another thread and used a heat gun instead. Simple as.

Hmm, I was thinking of doing this on my KE, but being burgundy it doesnt really matter.
However now I have the silver KJ, I reckon this may be worth a crack.

See those funny concentric circles on the front of the orange lens - these are a fresnel lens that directs light forwards into the eyes of oncoming drivers to overcome the brightness of the headlamps.
Notice when you remove the lens, it becomes incredibly difficult to differentiate that the blinker is on against the headlamps.
Very bad idea. Makes the car unroadworthy and if it is found to be a contributing factor in an accident... Your insurace company may decide that they don't know you any more. :gtfo:

Is there an alternative? For Instance find the same lens but clear not orange?

If there was a market for them, I could take a mould and produce clear ones. Would have to see if the refractive index of my materials is the same or similar, but should work. Very accurate surface reproduction. I need a smallish project to perfect the technique for a larger project I have, so this would suit.
Maybe around $20/pair?
Are they identical both sides, or two mouldings?
Don't want to get sued as the supplier of illegal lighting though? Maybe need some legally binding disclaimer?

for show or off road use
then with the covers supply a piece of paper stating that this product is intended for show or off road use only and you are in now way responsible for anything that may happen ither directly or indirectly as a result of use of this product
good idea if you can float it

good idea if you can float itI have all of the materials and equipment on hand, just a matter of recouping costs; would need about 5 orders.

PS. That's assuming someone donated the orange bits to take the moulds from.

In all honesty, I wouldn't worry about it. The flashing amber light is perfectly visible from all angles, I've already tried em out. The reflective housing/surround inside does the job just fine. You'd have to be blind as a bat not to see it and I very much doubt insurance companies would have a problem with it.

You're a legend. I love you (not in *that* way though, so don't get excited lol). As soon as I get home after the uni semester, I'm giving this a go. Your method sure beats sticking it in the oven.
Out of interest, have you got any whole-car shots with the mod done?

nice work, looks good.
i didnt have any problem with doing my indicators in the oven but i suppose if i was doing it to one piece paras a would be a bit more careful and go the heat gun route.

It's exactly the same, just that you do it to the indicator, not the whole lens

Yeah, it would be easier to do that too... Not to mention cheaper if you stuff it up.

In fact, after looking at my Verada indicators, the orange thing they wanted to mould is actually clear inside the amber indicator units. You can just swap them over. Insuarance Co. happy then lol

can you post a pic of the indicators with a orange bulb. cause now u can see the bulb so the amber colour is still there

You can get amber indicator globes that appear kinda chrome on the outside but illuminate orange, or LED's

hella makes a clear near white bulb that lights up amber.... and its a vivid amber too... also has the offset bayonet config of amber bulbs for a direct fit

i did my one piece parra's in the oven at 100degrees for about 15 minutes with the front of the light facing away from the oven. I not only removed the orange indicator but also the cover for the light bulb as well and just used narva platinum's for the low beam and a chrome amber flashing bulb for the indicator
