Was wondering if anybody could help me with a few questions about changing the trasnsmission fluid on a TJ 5 speed tippy. I have the gregorys service manual and it says to disconnect the right hand side oil cooler hose from the radiator cooler pipe, and slip a suitable length of hose over the radiator cooler pipe and put the other end in a bucket. Then run the engine at idle with the transmission in neutral until fluid stops discharging. Does anybody know if they are talking about the right looking at the front or right as in the drivers side. If it is the latter would that make it where the approx 100 mm piece of rubber pipe sits between the 2 metal pipes. The other question is about the filter, the book says there is a filter just near the dip stick, but i can't find one, there only appears to be a moulding in the top of the transmission that looks like a base for a filter. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yep thats the hose they are speaking about, its a small hose about 10cm long.

The TJ's dont have an external filter, dont worry about it.

However, to be honest with you, your best bet would be to go to Mitsu service center and ask for a Transmission Power Flush as it will remove 99% of the old fluid and makes a huge difference. The drain and refill method does not flush old fluid from the torque converter.

Will cost you about $200.

I agree with gas head. Get a full flush including torque converter.
