hey all,
will be buying a 2nd gen magna in the next few weeks or so, currently looking at a 93 v6 manual magna, 1 lady owner brand new rego, it's great
My main query is, what do i do about cup holders. I know some people have said they just tuck thei drinks into the coin box but i'd really prefer proper cup holders and i'm wonderinf if there's any place to put them, if i can install one into the that spot or if i can buy a centre console with one in it. (i was thinking about inbetween the gearstick and the dash part thingy where your head unit goes)
I could live with a "stick on your airvent" holder but would just prefer an inbuilt one for obvious reasons. Pictures of a plce where i could put it, instructions on how to install or any adivce at all is apreciated.
Also, anyone in perth(i live in warwick) who is nearby or whatever, feel free to contact me on here and give me any advice or just chat or whatever
cheers all

Without going to buffys links You can buy a Diamante Center console lid from the US which has a few cupholders in built that slide out, you can try US eBay for that
if not the air vent cupholders are awesome, they hold a maccas large coke just fine :D

cheers guys. Is the centre console lid just a straightforward install, like, take the original lid off then chuck the new one on or are things in different places?
cheers

Not too sure, if you have a TS it SHOULD bolt right up, but the TR centre console is actually lower, so id grab a TS console from the wreckers to start with

Yeah, don't do what I've done and just have the lid on a TR console... it's crap. Like... really crap.

Instructions for making a cup holder in a 2nd gen magna:
1. Pull ashtray out of center console
2. Dump drink in hole u have created
Seriously the hole that the ashtray sits in fits maccas/hj's drinks as well as cans perfectly. My ashtray lives in the glove box permanently, i use the hole its sits in as a drink holder that much (plus i don't smoke).

yeh, that was my plan since i don't smoke, never have, never will.
Was just seeing if there was any way of actually getting any real cupholders in there/if there was any real spot to put them. Cheers for all the advice guys

I always thought that as long as you had a 2nd gen with climate control that the cup holders would fit in if you could be bothered taking the centre console apart to get them in.

If you wanted to do it properly, cut out the ashtray entirely, then make a mould for a 600ml drink, basically whats standard size in most cars, and retro fit it...finish the rough edge off with a nice trim, and it should look pretty good. Gotta have time and skills to do it well though, I don't have either of those soo.

Yes, yes you can! :) Soon for me I think.

Rough edge? Just make a fibreglass insert for it, will look super good.
Better yet, get the cup holders from a late third gen and glass those into the console :D

Thats what I originally thought, but then they're not exactly the ideal shape to fit into a 2nd gen....I suppose if theres a will theres a way, but I'd be more inclined to take them from a Camry or something, I reckon the shape of the cupholders section of the console in our Camry would fit pretty well into the TR, but I'm not cutting it up to find out haha!lol

as i said above, was just looking to see if i could get proper cup holders, just for the simple reason of having a cup holder instead of a coin box.
cheers for all the help n replies

In the coin box? You do realise that the coin box is to the right of the steering wheel in the dash, if you tried to jam your maccas cup in their you'd have it all over your lap and the floor before you moved.....I hope you mean ashtray....:bowrofl:
